Photos taken by Pentax cameras for tech. discussion - Season I

Nice. I do think the uncle makes it different and has a comparison to scale.

On-camera HDR?
Care to share the settings?
Thanks

Thanks pinholecam.
No, I'm not using the camera's hdr but software hdr.
Just normal Av mode & no other special settings. :)

Nice HDR, not too overdone and it adds to the scene!

Thanks CorneliusK for your kind words. :)

I'm by no means a landscape expert, but couldn't you have set it to iso 100 and used a lower f stop, for better sharpness?

Composition wise I would have tried to frame the horizon at both the upper 1/1 and lower 1/3 line and see which one is nicer. Personally I would have chosen to give more space to the reflections on the water.

I still think its very nice!

Shot is ok, but I would have done the following:
1. Cropped off a bit more of the sea. Atm, the sky is not dramatic enough, nor are the colors. The sea holds the least in terms of attraction, details and drama, which is why I'd go for a crop and go for a textbook rules of thirds positioning of the horizon.

2. Maybe try to saturate the colors a bit

3. Maybe try a HDR shot to see if more details on the other elements (mountain, boats) would pull the attention into the photo. At worst, I can always pull down the exposure of a HDR shot to look like the present shot.

4. Experiment w/ B&W? The tones in the photos may yield nicely to B&W.

My few cents
Gd luck. :)

thanks for the comments..edited the pic and somehow i seem to find this beta :)

I haven't been actively shooting these past few months, so a trip out of the country fixed the problem somewhat.

Trying panning while shooting from the hip @13mm, 1/20s, f8

Didn't really take much pictures this time around, mostly fooling around with a flashgun for stupid group pictures. Dunno if my friends will allow me to upload. :bsmilie:

I'm currently experimenting with B&W, using Tri-X 400 settings, saturated with visisble grain. But it looks a bit much on the skin. Playing around with 16:9 and 16:10 format, and maybe some square crop as well.

I hate the editing part after a vacation. The last time it took like 4-6 months?

Another attempt at Cosplay characters. This time round, I used an AF360 external flash and the results were a little better than my previous attempt during the Anime Festival Asia but generally can't seem to get the lighting right and the photos are still not as sharp or contrasty as I would like (like the ones xxrenxx took). Must continue to learn. If you can share on what's wrong with my settings and composition, I would appreciate it too! :)
Mostly taken with the new DA35mm f/2.4. i should have brought my DA40 along...

At 1st I had a hard time getting the photo to be sharp too but then slowly slowly started to get a hang of it but still getting alot OOF shots.

Setting part i'm using Av mode(F2 and set iso to 100) on friday shots and M mode (F2 iso100 1/100) on today's shot. All are taken using in-built flash except for the studio shots.

Composition i can't really explain. For me i wan to bring out the person so i tend to let the person fits into the view. Half body shots.

Thanks xxrenxx. I set to auto-ISO (200-800 range). I was getting a OOF images previously using internal flash but with the external flash, the exposures were better. I also noiced the external flash has much better ability to adjust its strength according to the lighting, so while the internal flash will result in harsh output, the AF360 yields better exposures all round. Do share your settings in your images as I noticed your EXIF are removed. Hope to learn more from you too ! :)

All my shots were with the in-built flash as i haven get a external flash yet. But if there is harsh result on subject, i will do abit of PP to make it better.

Eh? i never remove it :O i can view the info on my flickr page:confused:

I'm still learning too haha. Lets learn tgt!
