I had a great time! Really salute the organisers, very efficient, and well-organised. Will pop-by again next week if I can. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with. Cheers!

wah! lin... 2nd post only?

btw i think poohbear... u treat us 'see foot' issit? :bsmilie:

This is what the Salvation Army says in their website:

http://www1.salvationarmy.org/Singapore

"TSUNAMI DISASTER APPEAL

To fund the purchase of the massive amount of supplies it will need to carry out its aid programme The Salvation Army has launched a special South Asia Disaster Fund.

Donate online by clicking on the button shown here

By cheque made payable to "The Salvation Army" and write "South Asia Disaster Fund" on the back and send to:

The Salvation Army
Ang Mo Kio Central P O Box 640
Singapore 915605

Make donations at all 22 centres and corps (churches) of The Salvation Army. Locations of Centres and Corps

Donation enquiries: Tel: 6555 0242/43/45

We are collecting Donation in Kind but NOT specifically for the Tsunami Disaster."

It was the last line, after all the details talking and focusing about the tSUNAMI dISASTER that caught my attention.

Is the objective still directed in a focused manner towards helping the Tsunami victims and the rebuilding after the aftermath ... since their message was headlined under "TSUNAMI DISASTER APPEAL" towards the said disaster per se, or will it be part of a generic effort to build up funds for the Salvation Army for use at their discretion, "NOT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE TSUNAMI DISASTER" ... :dunno:

I'm sorry if I sound particular about details...but why was the above details SPECIFICALLY put up on their website under the headline of "TSUNAMI DISASTER APPEAL", cafterwhich followed very specific details of how one can go about making donations and contributions towards the mentioned cause?

I know this effort started in absoulte earnest and out of generosity ... PLEASE know that I do not call into question any of the organisers' well-meaning and generous intentions or objectives. ;)

I'm just concerned if you know exactly WHY and for WHOM you're doing what you're doing...and where the money is going to ...

Since so much enthusiasm and long hours of sweat and tears have been spent in this effort, could the organisers get the Red Cross to clarify 'exactly what is this charity drive for now', since it is obvious from their own publicised statement, albeit, only in the VERY LAST LINE of their appeal, that is may very well not be for the Tsunami Disaster Victims anymore.

I do not debunk charity efforts. I only know that we have limited time and resources, and sometimes, hard choices have to be made ... how else can we choose which effort is more 'urgent' or 'necessary'?

GIVE, out of the kindness of your heart, but not if you get blinded along the way ... Afterall, if you get blinded, and your heart (and wallets) have been emptied, how can you continue to give from whatever limited resources you have?

dun think... we confirm we are doing for the tsunami victims via a platform from salvation army!

i think, from our volunteer's point of view, we dun really have much choice of where the money did go to, its the effort we put in that says, 'hey, i'm helping to gather as much people to help donate money to the tsunami victims, in return we give them a picture taken with the scenery'.. tats it... if every single volunteer does question salvation army about the whereabouts of the money, i think they would jolly well even end the donation drive... cos how are they going to set the account to say i spent 10 bucks to this 10 bucks to there... i mean, they (salvation army / redcross /etc) will be honest that the donation will go to the victims and if we does declare full, it means full, do we need to question red cross and ask them to give us a statement of accounts for every volunteers so that at least we know our sweat goes in which direction?

from here, i give perfect trust to the committee members for their transparency, and to the salvation army that they will help the tsunami victims with the donation we have collected!

lastly... i thank every volunteers & participants who came down to take a picture... thank you!

Can't sleep so might as well post some words of thanks ... 1st of all , i would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the PhotoAid Team to all volunteer who came down today  .Despite the minor hiccup we exprience at the last half and hour , we managed to secure at least 250+ shots for today. With yesterday estimated shots, we will have app. 567+ shots , excluding the extra donations. The final verdict will be announce as soon as yqt tally the amount with salvation army .

Special thks to tweety , who came by this afternoon and drop off some personal Canon A4 photo paper  . Thank you very much for your wonderful and "just in time" support as we are running low of photo paper.

and also special thanks to Edwin Poh (if you know who u are) , who got his friends to drop by and support us by taking some pictures. The funny thing is that when they ask for edwin, we were puzzled as we don't have a Edwin as our volunteer. Nevertheless , they took the pics and donated for a good cause.

last but not least , my thks to the PhotoAid Team for the support rendered this weekend . May we hit the 10k mark so i can 'treat' you guys to a seafood dinner hahah :bsmilie: (Michelle dun tell them about my seafood dinner menu ;) )

Hmm .. from your view , do you think other charity org would spend 100% of their donation to the tsunami victims directly ? not including their own volunteer's expenses such as food , lodging , air tickets for their volunteers in the affected region ? I think it's best of you to give salvation army a call and find out what they mean . We are not in any position to answer this query in place of the salvation army itself.

One thing... when i donated $200 to the red cross via IB . I don't see any point questioning them on where the money go to . I contributed within my means and i have place my individual trust upon Red cross to use the money in any way they deem fits. If likewise i do not trust them , i would just simply not donate any money to them . Simple theory isn't it ?

Fully agreed ... it is better to donate to organisation you trust and with good standing in public. Their reputation is there and I dun think they want to damage it, rite ?? In anyway they are doing well to help those needy and if u think you are not comfortable in doing so ... then just let it be ... :)

Guys, good efforts out there ..

Our plan started weeks ago before the announcements by the red cross and/or other orgs. Our license by the police states what our intentions are. We deal directly with the Salvation Army, all dontations are placed into sealed bags/donation boxs and given to the salvation army. Everything is on the up and up. I understand your point of view. Maybe you can clarify with the salvation army where the money goes to, now that they have announced that they have stopped collection cash.

Thank you for your attention to our efforts.
I am sure that everyone involved in this charity drive will go away with more than they came with. New friends, new skills and knowledge. The effort put in cannot compair with what you go home with.

If you cannot fully understand what I am trying to say, you can come down this weekend and experience it for yourself.

Hope to see you there.

Hi people,

I am having fun and making friends at the Photo Aid shoots.

Looks like we have plenty of local and foreign talent to start a new film industry to give Bollywood a run for their money!

We shall call it Porellywood, as in SingaPore of course!

Find it quite uncomfortable with this..finding your photo on forums when you are trying to assist the Tsumnami PhotoAid. Unless the girl gives her approval in this case.
Somemore without any copyright signs on the picture itself.
This post looks abit "Bua Yah". :nono:
Doesnt really look like assisting the PhotoAid professionally....

Apologised for the comments..... :( (No intention tocreate any flames here).

Point noted, but I think that the intention for the pictures is also to show that other than the official reason for the shoot, there are also other thinks to shoot, the subject was actually posing for us, copyright of the picture belongs always belongs to the photographer, since the picture is not used for commercial profit, no model release is needed.

And yes it is buaya and fun pictures.
Please do not take offence, after toiling under the schorching sun, I think we are allowed to have some fun along the way. Don't you think?

But maybe we should post the pictures in another forum and post a link here.

Cheers.

i got some nice shots of poohbear doing advert... should we start a thread for our model poohbear?

Definetly, fun is one thing and I am sure everyone had even though working under the hot sun...I am just putting myself in the girls's shoes in situation when her pics get leeched to sgforums or others....

At the first place, thought I had seen some earlier posting that this event is not organised for fun but rather to help the Tsunami people?

Anyway, I do really give a Thumbs up for those helped out in this event. Salute!!!

Thanks again for the consideration. Laslty, I dont think you would want to let your photos taken (when you are trying to help the victims) and ended up having them being discussed in some "bua yah" forums....etc.... :dunno:

Thanks, ambient2004, Points noted.
Maybe it's more appropriate to post it in other threads.

btw, the subject is not a volunteer. Just a passerby, who has posed for almost everyone, including other tourists, at Merlion Park for more than 20min.

It is still best that u come down this weekends to have a look at what we are doing. Whether the volunteers are having fun or doing a serious work.
U can judge by urself. We will be there before 8am to set up, till 10.30pm.
Thanks again for the valuable inputs.

Hope to see you there. Cheers!

Hi people... looks like another great achievement over the weekend...nearing 10K target soon!

Surprised at the sudden upgrade in equipments!!!! 1D mark II  , somemore looks like using hammer flash plus another flash. Sure to have very good night shots taken.

Keep up the good work!
