So is this monitor good for watching TV? Like with a TV tuner?
Will there be any lag?

dunno if its my graphics card or wat... there is a lag if i play game or video on full screen full res.

but not much problem with smaller res clips.

maybe time to upgrade.

Is calibrating this monitor easy. Cos I find it is difficult to calibrate the Dell UltraSharp™ 2408WFP 24" - not so happy with it.

TIA

I tried with Sypder3pro and no problems..... results seems better if i set to 2.2-Native rather then 2.2-6500K ... anyone with similar experience?

Could you guys post up the Calibration settings for the Color Temp/Brightness/Contrast/R/G/B etc?

Out of the box this LCD's too bright - 100% Brightness! Ouch!

Cause I don't have Spyder3 etc. I just picked this Philips 240PW9EB from SITEX $739 (+freebies etc)

Much appreciated - thanks.

It's not like that...

The spyder thing basically does two things:
1. Calibrate the monitor and override the graphic card LUT so that the gamma curve is corrected.
2. Profile the monitor so that the gamut mapping can be reliably performed in ICC-aware environments.

Those adjustments on the monitor won't really give you a good calibration unfortunately.

Thanks for explaining this...

But after buying the Philips, I'll have to wait to save to buy the Spyder$$$... :(

Any idea what Brightness should I reduce it to - 100% is way too Bright...

Should I leave the RGB settings at 100%?

Should I adjust the Color Temp out of 6500K?

I haven't used this particular monitor and each product may have a different way to implement these adjustments (brightness through backlight, RGB through internal LUT, but 100% may not bypass it)

Before you get it hardware-calibrated, I'd suggest reducing the brightness to your comfort and at least correct gamma by "eye balling" with something similar to quick gamma. In fact, OS X has a very nice calibration interface, and I wish we could have something comparable on PC...

Grantyale, thanks for the reply...

I'm happy to report the excellent color rendition of the Philips 240PW9EB. Definitely worth the money. I was contemplating the Dell 2408 with 110% Color gamut, but Dell has stubbornly refused to lower their price.

...Makes me wanna buy too...

Reds definitely show the largest improvement. I have an older Viewsonic VP191b and a Dell 2405FPW, when you compare it side by side, the Reds on the Viewsonic & Dell look a little 'washed' out. Greens also stand out on the Philips compared to the other two.

Its not about the relative 'vibrance' of the colours. ITs about how accurately reproduced are the colours. If you have a calibrated monitor to compare, you may find that such vibrant colours may be way, way off ... :dunno:

Hi Razzd and others,

I've been looking for a 24" IPS/VA panel in Manila for a long time and can't find any. Can you please post the stores in SG where the Philips 240PW9EB is available? I've a sister living there and I'm thinking of asking her to buy it and ship it for me. Store websites will be very ideal.

Thanks,

Romy
