Pentax Luna New Year Promotion - K-7 for $13xx, Twin WR Kit Lenses for $439SGD!

... and in some serious case, anything that resemble a camera shutter button, will lead to uncontrol action of pressing it non stop......

:bsmilie: LOL! :bsmilie:

What would you do if you saw anything that resembles a zoom lever?!?!?!

Seriously now... don't force yourself into a decision. Canon is also coming out soon with some models with equivalent clean HIGH ISO capabilities by default.

I strongly feel Pentax will also announce at least one DSLR with the K-x type of sensor, if not better! But that's just a strong hunch.

Nikon has stated they are going to announce some surprises this year too.

Samsung will be making their NX available globally soon too.

You'll only have more choices if you can wait... else buy the K-x for now for its clean HIGH ISO, really affordable pricing and the fantastic deal you are getting on the dual kits lenses... they are great value addition to an already great deal!

D90 is also a fantastic camera available at a great price... just a bit more expensive... more like a K7 with K-x sensor... minus a few features found on the K7.

Then, when something better comes along, get rid of the K-x kit or D90 if you deem it necessary!

What do you think? :)

...now the Pentax Flash is another headache, cause flash never cheap....

Using external flash is actually not that difficult. Once you learn some key flashing styles... it will really make your indoor photos taken in dim interiors POP!

The secret to using flash is that it should be apparent from the image that flash was used in the first place!

Do invest in a good flash. Then the gurus here will teach you how to use it effectively!! If you find flash units too expensive, get a Vivitar 285 HV... very affordable, very powerful and high regarded flash unit... even in pro circles. Only minus point is it does not swivel.

do see first whether you need a flash...

do see first whether you need a flash...

When I first started out, this is the same advice I got!

It was just after a few days of shooting in dim interiors that I realized I need a capable flash... shooting without it versus shooting with it (properly)... cannot even compare the results as the two looks are quite different!

Believe it or not, I use my color-corrected external flashes to actually enhance a 'flash not used' type of look in dim interiors i.e. lift the shadow levels in the backgrounds within the frame optically so that my subsequent PP (fast and basic routine) can stretch/enhance the look further!

I understand that all this takes a little more time to learn... but the results are absolutely worth it. A brand new Vivitar 285 HV is available for about $200 or less in Singapore. More importantly, since its a thyristor-based flash unit, it can also be used on any brand of camera with a hot-shoe.

Its a great unit to start out with. You can also easily sell it if you wish in B&S and get your money back... more like a free trial period!

Ya lor bro, I do need the flash, though not all the time, but as and when the situation required it......

Thank bro, will go read more on the flash..... really not easy to change change system..... not impossible for my case, but a bit more trickier than someone who just started out....

Ya, at first did consider the Canon route but somehow, I think Canon and me are match not make in heaven..... :sticktong.....

Ya, I heard coming months, the C, N , P and the rest of the gang are introducing new poison.... sigh.... want to wait but dont want to miss the CNY period and the "cameraless Syndrome" is getting worst......

:sticktong so anyone thinks i should just wait and see ?? whether any newer cameras come out and will k7 price be like now ? cause if k7 will be $17xx after cny even after new cameras come out then i will get the k7 now:cool:

Bro. There is always something new, may or may not be better, round the corner. Don't wait la. If it meets your needs, just buy it and enjoy. I have thoroughly enjoyed my K7 for some 7months now. Even with the current lower price, I do not have an ounce of regret getting it back in July :bsmilie:

Well, yes, we know Pentax will be releasing a new camera in March. It's called the 645D :)
I don't think new DSLRs will be released as quickly as they have been for the past few years. For the past few generations of DSLRs, new features like live view and video recording were added and sensor megapixels have increased. Recently though, there hasn't been any new innovation that will be making its way into the next generation of DSLRs. The megapixel race has already reached the end of the track where diminished returns have already come into play.
Video recording is the last great innovation in DSLRs and so far none of the DSLRs with video recording has been replaced with newer models. D90 was the first, and it's still going strong. Apart from the Sonys, the 50D is the last DSLR that hasn't been replaced with a video recording version yet.

IMO, I wouldn't wait. You may save money or you may miss out on a new model of DSLR, but nothing will ever replace the shots you missed because you didn't have your camera before you actually bought it.

I heard from Manly that Pentax is thinking of ending the CNY promotion for K-7 on the 14th of Feb.

So I suggest that you buy now in case you regret when the promotion end. Cause the $419 for dual WR kit lens is definitely a money losing deal.

Money losing to Emjay, this promotion only Singapore has.

is there any place to try out the k7? there is no pentax meet coming up before the end of the CNY promotion right?

There will be a pentax meet at Chinatown on Feb 6

This is actually not quite true. For e.g. one can pick up the K7 body from a reputable brick & mortar shop in Australia for around the same "special" singapore price (compared in Sing dollars, without GST in both cases). They have been selling at this price since before Xmas.

Anyway, regardless of where else is selling at this price level, the current asking price is damn good value for a camera of this calibre.

If you don't have a camera... the decision is easy if you are willing to treat it as a temporary decision... no need to read hundreds of reviews, etc. and keep on waiting... and getting your brains more tied up into multiple knots... too much confusion for comfort la!

Just buy any one of the better DSLRs currently available when they are available at a good discount/promotion... then use it for a few weeks. Don't like it... no problem... sell it off at cost if prices have moved up in the meantime... or at a slight discount (which is much better and cheaper than actually renting the same camera and lens for a few weeks!!)

Think about it this way... and you will feel that buying your K-x / K7 at these prices can only be a wise thing to do at present.

"When the door of opportunity opens, the wise walk through it immediately. The not-so-wise wait and hope for the door to open again in the future. Sometimes it does, most of the time it does not." - an ancient proverb which has been a personal favorite of mine for many years! I had it printed out in big black bold text, got it nicely framed and hung it on my office wall! Its so very true!!

Hi Bro, thank for the wise advise..... I have in fact got hold of a Pre-owned D300 to play play for the time being, awaiting any new development this year from Pentax or Nikon.. .. so along the way this year, I can sell this off at not too much loss (I hope)....

D300... camera is great and very capable! You got the best of the D90, K7, K-x bunch already! Why do you feel the need for another one at this time... as a backup or for some other family member to use at the same time perhaps?
