yeah the deal is very tempting but unfortunately the guys at op are clueless about how to trade...
All these talk about sudden drops in prices seem to indicate a new model launch? :dunno:
those thinking of upgrade, i think the price no matter what cam u trade in, its more or less gonna be ~$1380...
if u have a K20D, might as well sell it at a reasonable price, then buy the K-7, that i think is the best option, but of course have to act very fast, since u need to sell fast and buy fast...:bsmilie:
...And thus, it will flood k20d's again... ;p

now i need to set my target even lower... who wish to offload their k7 for sgd1k....pls contact me i trying to get a newbie to join u pentaxian but he only a student so pls give student price ok?
u can't blame them, pentax had too small a presence locally , and u guys aren't much of a help by demanding lower and cheaper price, how well can they earn comfortably without crippling themselves...with the ever growing presence of the canikon brand... if emjay go direct to a tiny handful of the internet-savvy users here. they might lose out potential xmm/xdd or ah peks/ah mahs customers if there no pentax camera in the shop itself.Yes, exact.
It is not about trade-in or something, it is just a common promotion technique to lower the price without destroy the market price (or SRP/RRP etc.). How could they make use of whatever you trade-in? (unless they are going to sell 2nd-hand stuff, which is probably not).
I hope Emjay is reading this, they are doing something wrong. Remember at the beginning of their taking over, the prices are very competitive. why? I think probably they compare the price they can get from pentax, and the price they can sell, find that they can still have a good profit. But later this is proven to be not working, simply because the market is so small here...(consider their setup cost/inventory cost/service center cost etc.)
I think the more sensible way for Emjay is to distribute the goods directly, rather than through OP/SP or whateverP. Since most of the singapore pentax users are here in this forum actually, they should try to make good use of this. (for example, by investigating our buying will here and conduct some batch pre-orders, which will hugely reduce the inventory cost). Giving commissions to someP won't help the selling much (remember the other thread about someP's saleman is convincing him to buy A550 rather than k-x?), because the street random customers will just go to Canon or Nikon even Sony by whatever reason. Instead, converting the commission to a better price directly to customer is the key for a such a small market. Since they get the product directly from pentax, i am sure it can be sold cheaper than all other parallel or gray imported sets, which have go through many additional selling nodes, especially with inventory cost/lag. (that is why the amazon USA can sell the k-x dual kits at around US$650 -- i.e. shipping in 1 or 2 months)
But no replacement yet, how to offload?

the fact is..canon, nikon, sony and olympus had a firm.sg presence locally...advertisement budget should not be a problem for them, emjay is akin to a local distributor for pentax.. to fight on a same level with the same budget with the abv mentioned 3 companies will be suicidal for them...let said if they willing to came up with a budget of 30k for advertisement how many kx or k7 will they have to sell to recover back the cost ?only the distributor has the stats to judge whether the pentax online community here is substantial or not compared to the total customer base, which i have heard, is not the case.
cutting the costs incurred in the usage of the normal retail process and using this online community will only hole themselves in, is not representative, and may be detrimental in the long run, using the forums with threads constantly buried in under 1min from the main boards is a very bad presentation platform.
using brick and mortar stores can acquire wider reach, but it doesn't help if Pentax cameras are hidden away on the shelves in one corner most of the time.
the problem here is not enough media advertisement employed, the only advert of Pentax i've seen so far is the k-7 poster outside MS color, very disappointing :bsmilie:
If Emjay were to launch a substantial marketing campaign, they will have to raise the prices of Pentax products to cover the cost of the campaign. Do we really want that?
Emjay did ZERO marketing for the K-x, yet the K-x sells really well all over. Word of mouth is pretty strong, and smart consumers know to look for reviews and can do the math to see that Pentax is a far better buy where they do not have to pay the Canikon tax to contribute to their marketing campaign. I don't mind keeping it this way, ensuring that only smart and intelligent people find their way into the Pentax community, while the stupider ones go to Canikon to subsidize their bus and tv ads.
willing-to-research consumers are few and far between, i agree we cannot expect emjay to single-handedly support a marketing/advertising campaign or strategy, but i wish to know also why is Pentax HQ not doing anything about Singapore's market? too small for them to take notice?
