Pentax K-7, It IS Here!

I've known about OK button + dials to set ISO, but yesterday I just found out something even more amazing... press OK and green button at the same time to set ISO to auto.

Av mode green button alone set to auto iso... :)

Yes, that's me. When I have some time I'll rethink my configuration and how I shoot. I think I had underestimated the power of the OK button... :bsmilie:

I'm also under the impression that hyper-program and hyper-manual modes are only implemented by Pentax. Will need they guys with multi-camp experience to confirm for us.

only pentax camp has these hyper mode hehe

was it you who mentioned that you had the front dial set to EV comp?

anyway, if you have the ISO set to the front dial, then to see the number of shots left you hold down the OK button. with a 8GB card i hardly ever worry about the available space on the card, so i prefer to keep ISO on screen instead.

woefulwabbit, did you know that in P (hyper-program) mode you can switch to Av mode by spinning the rear dial, and then to Tv mode by spinning the front dial, and back to P mode by hitting the green button?

and in M (hyper-manual) mode after pressing AE-lock to lock exposure you can adjust the aperture or shutter speed and the camera will adjust the other variable to maintain the exposure?

apparently these hyper features aren't available on DSLRs from some other camps?

Yep, I have my front dial in Av and Tv mode set to EV comp.
I use P mode almost all the time now since it's pretty much Av + Tv + full auto all in one mode, it's just so flexible. Best. Mode. Ever.

I beg to differ. M-mode is the best! And you dun even have to bother with EV comp - just read off the light meter and adjust accordingly.

Cool! I was going to be greedy and ask for lighter too..heh heh. Even with my "light" K200D, after 30min holding it, I feel a strain on my wrist. It was these times that I missed the lightweight istDL...now happily with toapayoh123..!

With you on this.. smaller is better.

The grip looks set to address the 'bigger is better' folks' needs though.

not many K20D users will "upgrade" or i dun even see it as a upgrade anyway... AF confirm improved, but still not there yet....less than a yr and K30D might be out...

K100D/K200D users might consider...

We'll always have the early adopters and the must upgrade to latest and greatest people.. regardless of what models they have now. At least the rest of us laggards can hold and drool over during outings!

Well, if you want it and it's an affordable discretionary purchase... why wait? :D

Only at a reasonable price.. I'll rather use the couple hundreds in savings (if I wait a few months, and assuming retail prices drop from the intro price) to spend on travel expenses with my K100D than get the K-7 earlier. :P

M mode is pretty useful under certain condition, but I can't say it's the best for everyone under all light condition :)

The camera provide all these metering modes is to suit different users' shooting styles and needs. We can't say which one is the best or most useful, but we certainly have our own favorite and most used metering modes.

And I agree w/ some comments above, the P(hyper-program) mode is indeed a very unique (to Pentax only) and useful mode, which a lot Pentax users like to use.

Av mode is my hyper mode... go figure...

Just thinking, I thought K-7 is to replace k20D? Will there be a k30D? So many product lines make it confusing.

I've heard K7 price is near to D3
Way to high for me:cry:

I think Pentax DSLR lines will be:

Entry level: k-m and successors

Mid-range: K20D and successors

Flagship: K-7 and successors

Though if this is the case, it does seem strange its top end line is smaller than its mid-range, unlike other brands.

Not a replacement. Merely product extension.
The K20D is still good... but whoever wants to make me a reasonable offer for my K20D, I can consider. ;)
