PENTAX K-01 & smc PENTAX-DA 40mmF2.8 XS - Official Embargo Date: 2/2/2012

Oh. I'm not saying it's wrong, just surprised people do actually shoot using LCD only with bigger zoom lenses. It seems kind of awkward to me. But of course, it's only me, and I'm no expert in such things,

Because I'm too used to ovf I guess, and I also need to get out more to see what others are using/ doing. But again, nothing wrong with using LCD. Sorry if I give the impression otherwise.

matter of individual preference. nothing wrong. i admit i am an odd one out. been using SLR for many years and so comfortable to shot with LCD after full migration to mirrorless.

Ok some quick and dirty shots of the K-01 taken with my Samsung smartphone.

Very solid feeling, this ain't no toy. Grip is fine. Those who rely on manual focusing will surely love this camera.
Pentax definitely pwned m4/3 in the area of image quality. Design is unique, DSLR purists look elsewhere.

whatever your point is, it all depends on how technology grows and probably mirrorless will get better lens will get faster

To make it clearer: with a small prime like the DA21, I can use the LCD comfortably to compose and shoot (but more often, I only use it that way to shoot video clips). Because the lens is small and light.

With a zoom lens, of course we can do the same, but it may be more awkward and tiring to use LCD. zoom lenses are often bigger and heavier.

That's why I think for mirror less cameras without vf, it makes more sense to use them with small primes. if the key reason is for the smaller or more compact size of the entire setup.

just a thought and a question, given the sensor and k-mount lenses, do you guys think future versions of k-mirrorless bodies are possible to go thinner? doubt so right?

Yes, you'd definitely see the camera in action tomorrow, or we can say today, if you come to the outing ;p

Ah... can't wait to have a try of the K-01.. !!

This is not a lot smaller than the K-r right?

Not smaller and don think is kr replacement

Looks unique. Hope it sells well. Cheers.

can share how this camera assist in the manual focus area ?
i'm very into manual focus (but still use auto focus).
is it able to detect that you are doing manual focus and auto zoom or highlight edge of object like nex7 or some other better method?
thanks :)

Manual focus means manual everything. You also focus by turning the ring.

I believe you mean focus peaking like in the GXR and NEX. I believe that the preproduction sample Fengwei had omitted this feature but it would be available in the retail version.

I know you can find the comparison for 2 cameras lined up this way on camerasize.com, but just for fun:

k01versusepl2.gif

EPL-2 versus K-01

k01versusnx200.gif

NX200 versus K-01

k5versusk01.gif

K-5 versus K-01

looks like everyone talk and try the k-01...

anyone use the da40 xs on a K-5? how's the IQ and noise(when AF) compare to DA 40?

what i meant is actually when you manually turn the focus ring, will the camera detect that you are doing manual focus and has some mechanism to help you.
like m4/3 system, they will auto zoom in when you manually turn the focus ring.

yeah, something like that, but not very sure what focus peaking meant
