wondering the istD batt grip can work on this or will there be a vert grip?

No, the ist D's grip will not fit the DS.

i dun see any plans for a vertical grip or bty pack for it yet..
so dun get ur hopes too high up. Juz bring extra AA bty if u really need it.

anyway, its more compact w/o the grip, goes in line w the "compact cam" idea.

saw an ad in the papers today and it says the DS will be on show for the SITEX from today till sunday.gg down to have a look at it later after work.
:)

So how is it? Initial impressions?

from yaoxing's scanned Sitex brochure, the ist*DS with 18-35 lens cost $1699 with 128MB SD, camera bag and a Polariod One Camera with film. Buy buy buy!

Kinda yucky. Think better to try asking for body only at 1400 something or changing the lense to a 50mm f1.4 may be a better idea. The 18-35mm FAJ is a coke bottle from most counts. The organizer is J&J?

got the cam liao!!!
bought the body at 1499(inclusive GST). w 128MB n bag. good value considering HK is also ard the 1450.

handing was good. really small n light compared to the rest of the DSLRs.
bright viewfinder(esp w a 50,1.4). good grip. the build feels good. dun feel cheap. interface was easy to access. separate FN key for impt stuff like WB n ISO, so pretty easy to acess.
tried it with my M42 lens and work perfectly(minus the AF and u need to stop down to focus), gg to get the 16-45 this weekend.

Heard from the JnJ rep that the 50, 1.4 is discontinued though, so pentax is probably coming up with a new range of lenses soon for the cam. Think cathay still have some 50,1.7. not sure... have to go find out this weekend.

time to get some sleep, install the prog tmw.
maybe upload some pics as well over the weekend.

CHeeRS!!!

no lens? Im going down like that....... Expo

Yes! no lens.
:)

some customisation wil be needed to activate the use of M42 n M lens though, but its a 1 time affair.

Congrats! I'd go with this one if I didn't have the big brother D ;)

I saw the 50mm F1.7 lens (several actually) at CP last weekend, so you'd be able to get one there. I'm using one, quite like it.

Will go there today and try it out.

Cheers!

U need to have a web host to store the photo first. Easier one is use geocity and rename ur .jpg to .txt.

oh

too lazy.
those who wana see or can post for me.. can msg me to get the images.

Went to SITEX this afternoon and tried out the *istDs, felt it's too small and light to my like :( I could only put three fingers on the grip, and had to go through all the LCD menu selections to set most of the options.

The view finder and LCD screen really improved a bit from the D version, and felt the writing speed is a little bit faster too. It's really light and tiny :bsmilie: Put on the kit lens (18-35mm), it's almost weight as a prosumer cam.

But for now, I'll keep its big brother lah ;)

Cheers!

Juz bought it. Like the weight though. It works with my 24mm and 90mm adaptalls with the PKA mount. will be testing out the 90mm with a 1.7x AF adapter tmr if weather permits.

tiong78, give me a hint where can I get the adapter for M42 lens to Pentax K mount. :)

u know fotographix at lucky chinatown?2nd level.
there's abt 5 the last time i check...abt a month plus back.
u have to go see, think open at abt 3pm on sat. not sure abt sunday.cost me 35.suddenly find the CZJ 35/2.4 super useful.
can do macro n is ard 50mm after crop factor.juz the angle is off... not as natural as a 50mm.

The DS write speed is pretty fast, I can take continuous shoot up to 8 shoots... but tat also depend on the SD card speed...The LCD and the rest of the functions are great, especially in low light, it can AF quite fast.. bad maybe if the AWB.. quite bluish..maybe is my setting, but I try to shoot along Orchard yesterday night using AWB, rather blue for certain condition.. but Manual WB solve the issue...

I bought mine on the 25th, first day of the Sitek show.. i think i am the first to get hold of one set..they only have 30 units available...if not have to wait till December and heard they will be selling at 1799...

the kit wasn't a great one.. but I would say good enough.. 18-35mm, maybe 16-45 will be better, but still wide enough..depending on your application...

Anymore *ist DS brothers or sisters around.. share your view...

hey
any1 knows where there is still stock of the 16-45/4?price after GST?
its out of stock at CP. :(
bought the 50/1.7 though.. but actuali in low light manual focusing is still faster.:P

1799??? retail or street price?
