Pentax has few lens selections

To you maybe, but to me its creating awareness. I think maverick has already brought up the points to the thread.

No new users, soon it will be a few old men meeting up in a dingy pub admiring old lenses from yester year.

u create awareness by posting a bunch of discontinued lenses ?... what awareness... if u post all the DAs. FAs etc im fine...

These are easily bought if you bother to try.
If you think we need to show DA stuff, yeah, sure, help post the pics of some.

i have already posted pics by DAs, FAs b4 and what they are capable of...if u look hard enough...

Perhaps ppl need to do a search based on posts made by you if that is 'hard enough'
If you think you have done great, fine by you.

Pentax has few lens selections?
Old or new, there are plenty of lens selections. Yes, if they were hard to find and get (maybe in the days before the internet), it would be pointless to bring up old lenses, but these as I've said are easy enough to obtain if you bother.

Actually to dispel the myth, newbie Pentaxians and soon-to-bes should refer to the K-Mount Lens page by Bojidar Dimitrov.

Its a very infomtive site, thank for sharing.... just a few queries as not familiar on Pentax mount.... this K mount can only Manual focus on K7??? How widely availbale is it in Singapore? :dunno: Thank you.....

The F, FA, DA , FA*, F*, DA* series can Autofocus on all Pentax AF bodies.
-- the only exception is the SDM-only lenses ( i think only a handful ) that can only AF on SDM-capable bodies, like the K100D Super, K10D, K20D, K-7, K-x.

Those before the modern ones above, i.e. the K, M, A series, can only manual focus.

i will use the brand that produces the one lens to end them all,

a 10-1000mm lens with constant aperture f/1.2 with close focusing distance that allows me to attain 1:1 magnification at all focal lengths, and is small, compact, and light.

but whether there will such a brand, dan gu gu.

:bsmilie:

to be honest, all brands have the usual lenses that most people will need. why ask for what, 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.2...... these are relatively specialised lenses, e.g. 85mm f/1.2 usually used for portrait shooting, that do not really have a place for the common user.

I agree . . . hehehe

I picked up a Cosina 24/2.8 by chance. Turned out to be pretty good. I suspect your 24/2.8 is the same lens branded for specific customers.

pls lor i never say pentax has few selections... and i never say they are hard to get... just showcasing ur collections of old lenses does not create the so call awareness u mentioned...

Thank bro....

And then there is the Voigtlaender Nokton 50mm f/1.1. And, if I remember correctly, Canon offers a 50mm f/1.0L USM. Did anyone attempt to make a f/0.9 ever?

Wonder if these can be used on a Pentax camera with appropriate modifications/mounts?!?!?! Has any Pentaxian attempted to use one of these? Maybe the more experienced lens gurus here can throw some light on my query.

Canon FD got a F0.95 :D. Anyway who care if it is not my lens :sticktong

For some reason, I'm really enjoying this thread!... especially the comments and observations from pinholecame, night86mare and 'the red cat'!!

how many lenses u see in the pics are still in production... ? showing a bunch of discontinued lenses does not tell ppl we have lots of lens options... its just tell ppl about ur lenses collection...

u want to dispel the misinformation... should post how a DA16-50 can perform, how a 50-135 can perform, how a DA12-24 can perform etc...

In my humble opinion, pinholecam was just trying to get the ball rolling amongst PENTAXIANs to showcase their lens collection to viewers ( potential converts / new DSRL users ) that with PENTAX, they have the option of using both old manual lens ( some which can be 20yrs old ) or / and modern lens ( i.e. F, FA, DA ), not forgetting that users can even use third-party lens, some of which can be obtained at very attractive prices. This by itself means that users have wider choices.

As things turn out, the majority of lens in pinholecam's collection are manual discontinued lens ( that is personal preference ). The lens may be discontinued, but importantly they are still available internationally.

I wonder if your comments would have been any different if the thread were started by some senior masters with a sizeable collection - manual and automatic.

To further illustrate the point about choices, with the recent influx of new PENTAXIANs, we witnessed a recent demand for 50mm lens. Now users have a choice between autofocus lens such as the FA50 f/1.4 ( for those with no budget ) , or manual lens such as K, M, or A, 50mm F/1.7 or even f/2 . ( there are pictures available to show result from these lens ). Also with the 85mm, not everyone has the budget for the 85mm F/1.4 or FA 85mm F/1.4 or FA77 Limited. But there are options such as the M 85mm F/2. Then there is the choice between FA31mm Limited and FA35mm F/2. Other options would be the third-party brands.

For me, Manual lens will be used in situations where I have all the time in the world to focus on the subject ( and the subject will not charge me on an hourly basis ;) ), while autofocus will be applicable for situations where time is of the essence, or when holidaying.

If viewers find that this thread does not add much value, over time it will be forgotten, just like so many others. ;)

To pharaphase the words of Paramount Chinese Leader Deng XiaoPeng : DON'T BOTHER WHETHER IT IS A MANUAL LENS ( discontinued or not ) OR A MODERN LENS, AS LONG AS IT ASSIST IN PRODUCING A GOOD PICTURE, IT IS A GOOD LENS. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I think some pentaxians are like hybrid car owners :D

Lets contribute positively to this thread and others to come ;)

Thanks. At least it served some value.
The Nokton 1.1 is yours?
