For field sports action shots, personally I find the Sigma 100-300 F/4 more suitable. Imagine to be able to frame a player further away one moment and the next swivel around to capture a decisive moment of another player feet away from you with the zoom.

Yup thats why I'm taking the Sigma 100-300 into consideration. I tried shooting with a 70-200 F2.8 last time, its just too short when 50% of the time all the action is happening on the other side of the field. When the action comes nearer, having a zoom is more flexible.

If you really need flexibility, get yourself 2 bodies.. 50-135 on 1, and 300 on the other! :-p

Good idea ... but thats about 6k worth of equipment :sweat:

Saw this thread - Pentax 80-320mm

Do u think this is good one enough for long telephoto zoom?

It's a pretty decent telephoto zoom, one of the better ones by Pentax. Optically it's comparable to Sigma or Tamron 70-300 equivalent ones, but it only got 1:4 mag ratio. Had the lens before, quite pleased w/ its performance:

For the asking price, I think it's a good deal.

Agreed with fengwei. This one took recently with the 80-320.:)

I thought you got yourself a k20d already? And the 50-135? if so, you are looking at 4k worth right? :sticktong

OK ... understood, it's really expensive ... and only if Money isn't holding you back ...

Yeah haha... if money no issue, then can get some other lens already. Anyway the results from the 80-320 looks good. I'm just not sure how good it would be in practice. Anyone can loan me to test ? ;p

Currently being hit by LBA to get one of the lens above. Judging from the prices in the US, it is pretty similar with the Pentax being slightly more expensive.

Pentax price: http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-21760-...8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215073664&sr=1-8

Sigma Price :http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-100-300...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215073664&sr=1-1

Which one would you guys go for ?

I would go with the DA*300/4, but my stomach churns when I think of the price.

I would snap it up in the blink of an eye if overall price incl. shipping etc were SG$1500-1600. Local price of SG$2300 is waaaaay too expensive.

Are you finally going to buy it from the US or go local?

Unless u need zoom, I suggest DA* 300mm F4. Reason being prime lens tends to be sharper. If u need zoom and can wait, I suggest u wait for DA* 60-250mm F4.

That's what I am waiting for. Very eagerly, I might add. DA*300/4 is out of my budget, hopefully the 60-250 will fit better.

BTW, does anyone know if the 55-300 is actually available here in SG? I haven't seen a single copy anywhere. :dunno:

I saw the 55-300 at TK. Should be good price knowing they are pretty good with Pentax prices...

Saw and played it at Alan Photo SLS. Pricey ...

I think they told me 699 but I can't really remember for certain. Best to give them a call.

Wah bro you got the DA* lens from US ? Yeah I have read a few reviews on the Sigma 100-300 and all have positive feedbacks.
No its Canada actually. UPS tracking shows that it will reach Singapore this coming Monday. Hope everything goes smoothly. ;)

Check out the prices in US, and do the conversion?

That's not what I meant.
I wanted to know if the 55-300 was worth SG$700 from a IQ/features/build quality/whatever POV.

I would get the 80-320 in the B&S for 220 instead of the new 55-300.

That's what I'd do if I were looking for a consumer level ~300mm zoom lens :)
