Pentax and Energizer: Something Interesting

a set of eneloop lasted me 600+ shots when I was in thailand.

i've achieved about 1300+ shots before on a set of these batts.
With some video recording.

I was trying to look for an old post of mine where I reported the shot-count of my Energizer Lithiums on my Kx (or K200?) but unable to locate it. I think it was around 1700-1800 shots. I used it right till it was no longer able to take any photos. :)

I had been using the free Lithium batteries from Energizer.

Went Korea 7D with that and totally went flat after i came back singapore. Roughly took 1.2k shots there and a few short video (and there are times i forgot to switch off my camera.) + another 200 shots locally. So 1.4k??

Doubt will hit 1.9k shots, unless u take photo and off immediately without using other functions.

Usually stuff like these the items always go through a Stress Test to find out how it fares, thus 1.9k shots are probably just plain shots without any other usage.

btw, where else can i buy Eneloop other than ebay???

It really depends on the usage and where you are.

I was in Europe, using the lithium batts. I think the cold weather doesn't help.

Also, I used a lot of multiple and long exposure shots (really like this feature), and that takes up quite a bit of battery life as well. So for me, it didn't even hit 1000. But having said that, I think it's NOT the ultimate version (maybe I wasn't scrutinizing what's on the battery), but it just say Lithium. This was on my k-x.

wonder how the eneloops are on the k-r.

i'm not getting very exceptional battery life on it, actually, especially with use of live view and long exposures. wonder if the third party batteries will do better. at the very least, definitely need spares for a full day of shooting.

now thinking of just getting the battery adapter + eneloops.

I have the adapter .. managed to get it from a fellow forumer to bring it back from Japan, so it's definitely good price. Will be testing that out as well to determine if battery life is ok.

You should've bought a K5 in the first place ;) K5's battery lasts a lot longer than Kr's

Frankly, I think 3rd party spares should be better. I have two 3rd party spares for my K7/K5 and they work as well. Cheaper in terms of $/capacity as well.

IMHO, the battery adapter is useful only as an emergency backup (ie. all LiOn batt are flat; no recharge options; charger spoilt, etc). Of course, based on this sort of logic, its not worth more than ~$40. :D

they're taking a long time to come in though, i always end up watching my friends shoot during outings because there is no spare battery....

Heh! That was 'one of the reasons' why I decided to sell off my K-r and keep using my good ol' K-x... at least I do not need to be ripped off for the expensive AA battery adapter or a second original proprietary battery! No second set of battery, cannot shoot with my K-r anymore! Eeyaaah!! What good does the extra features of the K-r viz. the K-x do for me in this situation which I was forced to face often! Nothing!!

And the K5 battery does last considerably longer. My K-x now only gets used by me as a second body with a different lens when I do not want to bother with changing lenses on my Pentax system.

i like having af points visible in my vf... :)

Super nice batteries..
My whole bike is custom sprayed in glitter red.. Blinds people in the sunlight... AWESOME!

Yeah, but normally you won't see the batteries when they are in use :D

But still, the color ones do look better when not in use

Unless they launch a transparent version of the camera with only the exposure part light-sealed and the rest of the electronics and battery compartment can be seen clearly. It can be called the K-R Bikini-version. :bsmilie:

LOL! Good one!!

Given the option, I'd like having AF Points visible in my VF too... but since I shoot with the center AF Point most of the time, does not make much difference to my general style of shooting... except for those rare occasions when visible AF Points are indeed needed.

But if I was given the choice to choose between having AF Points and having extra battery power... I'd choose the latter any day without thinking twice.

Even though I liked having AF Point visibility in my ex-K-r, I did not like running out of juice when I could have continued on shooting with a fresh set of NiMH rechargeables like I can do with my good ol' K-x and yet obtain the same high image quality levels.

Pentax seriously needs to make the battery adapter available at a lower price or, better still, include it as an included accessory. I guess that will sooner or later happen when the demand for the K-r begins to wane a bit.

Most of us don't bother or remember to use a freshly charged battery every time we take our cameras out. This is why the K-r minus its proprietary AA battery adapter becomes an irksome issue for a number of us. No fresh battery makes my camera useless when it dies down during use... simply a few pounds of dead-weight.

Even if third party or original battery packs were available for a reasonable price... I would simply pick one up instantly. But at the moment (for the last three months or so) I am not able to get my hands easily on either a reasonably priced third party or original battery pack or an AA adapter for my K-r.

sircam, I guess it's a matter of preference. I have the k-x before, and I still think k-r is the better choice. And it really depends on your usage. The ability to switch off the noise for low iso for me outweighs the dependency for a 3rd party battery.

yes, the price of the battery adapter shd have been much lower, or better still free of charge. but those who have chosen the K-r (which to me is still a better photographic tool than the k-x), rather than wait for the 3rd party batteries and miss those shots, why not just grab the adapter straight away ... missed shots or photographic experience you missed with your frens are worth more than the 18 dollars difference you paid (versus getting in Jpn).

And when the 3rd party batts arrived on our shores, I'll still get them. ;-)
