Pentax and Energizer: Something Interesting

sircam, I guess it's a matter of preference. I have the k-x before, and I still think k-r is the better choice.

I also thought K-r was the better choice and, in some features, it is better... no doubt about that. What my personal testing showed that the noise output from the sensor is, for all practical purposes, the same as the K-x.

And it really depends on your usage. The ability to switch off the noise for low iso for me outweighs the dependency for a 3rd party battery.

But when your first battery runs down you cannot shoot with it in the first place if you do not have a second battery! That's one of the biggie reasons why I finally sold off my new K-r and decided to keep my K-x.

yes, the price of the battery adapter shd have been much lower, or better still free of charge. but those who have chosen the K-r (which to me is still a better photographic tool than the k-x), rather than wait for the 3rd party batteries and miss those shots, why not just grab the adapter straight away ... missed shots or photographic experience you missed with your frens are worth more than the 18 dollars difference you paid (versus getting in Jpn).

I don't like the idea of being ripped off and paying huge amounts of money for basically what is a piece of common plastic with a few tiny metal contacts. Especially when it is forced upon me! I already have a K-5 now and between my K-5 and K-x, I do not see the need for a K-r when it is accompanied by the bothersome adapter/second battery expense issue.

Why do you feel I miss some shots? I have my K-x and always carry three to four sets of fully charged NiMH 4xAA cells in its camera bag... enough to last me an entire day.

My smart chargers (I have several) ensure that I can recharge all of these in an hour or two when I return home or to my hotel (when I travel.) I can't do this even with my K-5 yet. K-x absolutely rules in this regard.

My K-x still continues to take beautiful snapshots. So did my K-r. So does my K-5. My friends have a tough time telling me which of my images came from which of these cameras! Only the extreme high ISO ones are a give away... if I do not post process them, that is.

And when the 3rd party batts arrived on our shores, I'll still get them. ;-)

Waiting for these too... until then no K-r... for me at least.

You must do an enormous amount of shooting if you need more than 2 sets of eneloops a day. Battery anxiety is an uncomfortable feeling, I can relate, but I have never shot more than 600-700 shots a day unless I am covering a whole day event, or if I am shooting sports.

the other day i called OP, and they couldn't give me a set time when the batteries would arrive.

so i just ordered the $25 from ebay... oh well. 1/4 of the price.

Yeah, but normally you won't see the batteries when they are in use :D

But still, the color ones do look better when not in use

i think some color is useful to ensure that you don't mix up your batteries.

i mean, i used to mark my sets with marker pens, but they did rub off eventually... color helps somewhat. :)

of course, don't need to glitter la...

the other day when i was at macritchie, everyone on the trip required a change of batteries.. :)

sadly, i was the only one who couldn't do so, so i just hung around and watched them shoot. thankfully, my battery only died near the end, so missed out maybe 2 or 3 shots.

The key problem with eneloops is its white (or coloured) all the way without a band marker. This means its more difficult to see which is the + or - end especially when you are charging them. :)

Yah burning through 1 set of batts I can understand, but two sets is really hardcore. How many shots does the original K-r batt last for you?

Sure. You are entitled to your views.

Why do you feel I miss some shots? ...

I wasn't referring to you, Sircam. I was saying it from a generic point of view. I am saying to anyone that it's just a battery or a battery adapter or even a 3rd party battery. $50, or $70 or $30, just go get anything that you find reasonable, and not miss any photo opps!

I have always thought if anyone who has a k-x already, and later on upgraded to a K-5, the k-x will be a really good backup. And I think I mention that sometime ago possibly on another thread.

Now back to the original topic... I am using the Energizer Lithiums on the adapter I got via a fellow pentaxian who went to JPN recently, and I'll post how much juice before I see them go flat. I am hopeful that it shd be at least the performance of my former k-x. , and this time on a K-r.

estimating about 200, with heavy use of live view AND long exposures, both of which really drain any battery. since the LV is so mcuh better than before, i just happily use it with nd110 filter on... so don't have to keep ensuring that the composition is fine when the waves come in and shift the tripod ever so little to tilt the horizon, etc...

so this just means that if i do panos, exposure blending and what not, i definitely have to charge between each outing.
