Panasonic Imaging division ready to reveal some nice toys on 6-9 January!

My prediction is likely a 1" sensor camcorder to rival Sony's AX100.
Considering CP+ 2015 is in February, Pany will likely announce only 4K camcorders in January and maybe a 4K GX8 in Feb.

Really ?

But here is another rumour:

I am interested in getting the 4K GX8 leh ...

my dream purchase in 2015 will be to buy the replacement model for GX7 (bcos it doesn't have 4K video) and the Olympus 7-14 F2.8 lens ...

Thanks

I think Panasonic's new offering will be something smaller than the GX7. A GM5 sized body with a flip screen will be perfect. But all is conjecture of course. Panasonic is notorious for spreading different features thinly across their GM, G, GH, GX, GF line.Hopefully competition from A6000 and upcoming A7000 will spur them to consolidate their offering. Right now, the compactness of M43 size is perhaps their strongest advantage. Hopefully, Pany wise up to that fact and concentrate on building a small camera with everything. For example, putting a GH4 style swivelling LCD and a GX7 flip-up EVF on a GM body. Leave audio features exclusively for GH line and maybe shrink GH5 to a G5 size. Perhaps G line don't really have a reason to exist.

sorry out of topic abit, any reliable rumours so far on the Panasonic GX8 with 4K be announced during the CP+ ?

thanks

Ryan, what's the allure in a GX8 when you own a GH4? Size is not much smaller going by GX7's dimension.

Hi Rodney,

The reason is very simple. I am looking for a camera to replace my GX7. Don't get me wrong, i love my GX7. The ideal size camera for me actually is gh4. Size not really the issue for me ...

You see, i need a panasonic camera (bcos i am familiar with Panasonic's user interface. The Olympus interface i am quite blur as i cannot get used to the EM1 that i bought for my wife) to:
a) complement my GH4 when i take video bcos i need another angle other than my gh4 & Vg30. So i need a 4K video. GX7 doesn't have 4K

b) i need the camera to do timelapse. I am quite reluctant to use my GH4 to increase the shutter count by using it to do Timelapse.

In short i need a cheaper panasonic camera that can take 4K video to complement my gh4.

Trust the above clarifies.

Thanks

We'll find out in 2 days:)
If you are looking to upgrade the audio on the GH4, you can downgrade the GH4 to a B-cam and get the rumored AF100 successor coming to NAB in April. Guaranteed to shoot 4K and comes with XLR and ND filters.

But it's too bulky and too expensive as a hobby for me leh ...

Forget the BMCC. Check out the Ursa instead! (unless you are heavily invested in M43 lenses)

The AF100 successor will pique my interest if it weighs in at about the size of VG30.
Original AF100 looked really comical with a pancake on it. And truth be told, the GH2/GH3 killed the AF100 in the IQ dept.
People go into M43 for portability first and foremost and Pany sometimes forget that I feel.
(eg. GH4+YAGH+12V battery)
What I wouldn't give for a GM5-Zoom Q8 hybrid!

hahahaha then again maybe not such a good idea. don't want my shoulder and arms to die when I use shoulder rig and gimbal..

I do wish the BMCC MFT came with the same Super35 sensor as the BMPC 4K though.. I don't want to be stuck with EF lenses because MFT offers more flexibility

I can totally understand the allure of MFT lenses. The range is getting wider and more attractive every year. But I feel there needs to be a serious rethink on the design of the GH range if it's marketed as a video tool. I would love to see:
-a flip-up EVF like the GX7
-zoom rocker like a RX10
-XLR interface like A7S/RX10

yeah, if they are releasing a new AG-AF the GH series will probably remain targeted at narrative filmmaking rather than anything else.

Sorry Ryan. Looks like GX8 won't be launched at CP+ afterall. Sony also has no new camera to show. CP+ is looking like a Canikon and Olympus show with cameo by Pentax.
