Hmmm.....I believe you are right. I thought that the kit lens that came with it would be enuff. Now I want to experiment more...should have thought more about it. Well thanks for your suggestion. Guess I will have to get the 45-200mm one after all...

hi guys, i'm using the G1 with the standard 14-45mm kit lens. i'm wondering if i should buy the longer telephoto zoom lens.

i would like to know how usable are photos taken at full telephoto if the subject is moving about.

Hi guys, I am interested to get myself G1, may i know what is the current best package price(body+lens+etc)? and Where?

Thanks.

You may wanna check out Alan Photo & MS Color then compare the prices. Nowadays should be able to get good prices bundled, together with kit lens like the 45-200mm & 7-14mm.

Buying the longer telephoto lens is a good idea as I've been in several situations (flying birds, planes, capturing of a specific landscape feature from a balcony or from far away, etc) where the photos would be impossible without the 200 zoom range.

As for useability, it depends. For me I find that balancing the camera is a little difficult as the 45-200 lens is much heavier than the camera body. And when using the 200 zoom range the Mega OIS doesn't help at all with camera shake. I would strongly recommend using a tripod when zooming beyond 100.

hi guys, what's new.. i  G1

Hi, guys,

Can anyone advise me the new Olympus E-P1 17mm/2.8 pancake fix into G1?

Hi all, kindly include me in G1 club

Thank you. I checked the web site. Good lens.

Hi, just got a G1 and would like to join the club.
BTW, I just came back from Yunnan and took some pictures with the 45-200mm lens at the max 200mm(35mm equiv 400mm). I also took identical pictures with a FZ50 at max 210mm(35mm equiv 420mm). Guess what, the FZ50 pictures were sharper and the depth of field better. anybody can give a reason for this? Is it that the panasonic lens cannot match up to the Leica lens on the fz50?

Actually you are correct. The Lumix lens is no match for the quality of Leica lens. So there will be a loss of sharpness when shooting with the G1. But do keep in mind the G1 has a larger sensor so you could try to reduce the shutter speed to reduce the blurring. A neat trick I've found is to use a higher ISO when I reduce shutter speed, the results usually turn out well with my G1.

Based on a feedback from fellow CS member microcosm, I too find the lens may not be as sharp opened wide, than say, if you close the f-stop to around 6.3. At f6.3, the pictures should come out nice. Also, are you taking JPEG or RAW photos with the G1? Are the settings comparable with the FZ50 (which can also set the sharpness, contrast, etc).

The FZ50 has f-stops starting from f2.8 to f3.7 at the longest zoom so you should be getting shallower DOF than f3.5-f5.6 of the G1. Having a smaller sensor does allow that.

Btw I'm looking at the specs of the FZ50 and compared with some of Pana's latest offerings like FZ35, FZ28... this camera is like, WOW!

Why did Pana go back to 1/2.33" after a 1/1.8" sensor offering? From hot-shoe enabled to non-enabled? Okay, they did make the wide angle wider. So is TZ50 still their flagship product? :dunno:

I was using jpeg but at the largest file size. The settings were about the same as they were both on P mode and AF. Could the UV filters contribute to this? I intend to do a test this weekend with identical settings and w/o filters to see if there is any difference. I had intended to sell the FZ50 after my trip but if it is proven that the leica lens is better, then I rather sell the 45-200 mm lens.

Hi, Latest firmware for body is 1.4 and lens is 1.1 for olympus and lumix lenses. Olympus 9-18mm wide angle with AF gives 100 degree wide for landscape, shooting indoor & outdoor, eg stadium, church, hall, plaza, gallery, etc It is sharp with no vignetting and colourful.
