lol I guess you can use it with SlowSync2, where the real flash fires *after* the long exposure.

Slimo ,i think you have to use manual mode for slave flash .

Check if your camera flashes twice then snap ?

If so ,then the first flash for metering but the slave fire ,second flash for the actual shot .

Try manual mode .

I dont have the camera to try only words ,sorry .

yup, it has a manual mode. fz18 fires pre-flash before the actual flash. saw somewhere that the pre-flash is for reducing redeye or somthing. not too sure.

anw, here's my shot of the moon. 100% crop. not full moon yet, it's tomorrow. not using any telephoto lens and tripod too. not a good shot but feel free to comment and advise. ;)

you can get a better picture try using spot exposure and focusing (AF)
if using MF, try just slightly 1 click down from infinity

Slimo i dont think is redeye ,metering are more to it .

n0eln0el: will try another one tonight. just realise i got my NR mode at +2. arggh. forgot to change it back when i was testing the NR.

jamesicecool: nice shot! much more clearer than mine. will try again tonight. :D

mccm33: yup, it is more to metering and the white balance. saw an article saying that some cameras use pre-flash for redeye reduction.

if you wanna get the details of the moon craters, it is usually not advisable to shoot at full moon.

zzyzx: just trying to get a pic of a full moon. will try taking more details of the moon next time.

is it advisable to mount a lens hood and use a filter together to protect the lens? maybe i'm paranoid bout getting dusts and particles getting into my lens...

a filter and lens hood is not needed. there's more things to worry than dust. just enjoy your gear...

zzyzx nice takes! the last picture slightly too noisy leh.. oversharpened?

thanks.. wah... kenna exposed!

wa the 2nd moon shot has a 3D feel to it. but something bothers me is the blue surroundings of the 1st moon pic...

it is due to the tele-lens used then will created the blue ring .

Hi all,

I hope I am welcome and not too late to join this forum.

Got my FZ18 recently, about 3-4 weeks now. Price was 400 SGD ^^. Actually its only 290 USD, my aunt brought it from America for me, so totally no delivery charge, plus the all time low USD conversion rate.

Sadly though, its the accessories that disappointed me. I got a Vitacon 2.5x tele-con, which IMO was atrocious. I only got 1.37x effective zoom and totally blur shots, and 180SGD =(.

Total newbie, would like to hear and learn from you guys really! So far I pretty much love the camera except the ISO... And somehow I don't like the "very effective" iA mode, it seems like all the auto modes on the FZ18 tends to choose fast ISO speed over aperture/shutter settings.

How do you guys usually overcome noise? I only use photoshop methods but totally clueless about analog methods. (And the obvious reducing ISO)

And can someone tell me how the Noise Reduction works? Thanks!

(Also looking for Tele-Lens, but under serious consideration now since I am terribly upset with the first)

I think you should go for Raynox lenses since bro zzyzx used the Tele lens for it. Raynox has good points to show. But I havent bought one yet. will soon.

here is one of the Night Macro outing that I did.

Using Vitacon Macro lens. Plus no sharpening done except contrast and cropping.
