P6000 out!

It'll be interesting to see what GPS chipset will the P6000 be using, hopefully it is a SiRFstar III or MTK.

DPreview states:

"This on the new Nikon RAW format:

COOLPIX Picture Control NRW (RAW) files can only be processed in-camera. NRW (RAW) files are compatible for use in-camera, with ViewNX (Windows version only available early October 2008) or with WIC-based applications. Capture NX, Capture NX2 and NEF files are not compatible with NRW (RAW) images."

Rubbish.

c'mon! this is a coolpix. not all can afford capture NX.
i'm a mac owner, but WIC may be the future. who knows? it's just a codec.
the new sensor is really good.. if the AF is fast i may dump my P5000 for this.

love the grip!

what's the use of a GPS?

To geotag your photos, of course!

Why geotag your photos?

So you always know where you took the photo. If you take hundreds of shots, trust me, this is useful even in a highly urban environment like Singapore.

Just added some GPS gimmicks other than that no difference from the P5100.

Have no idea about the P5100 and P6000 in comparison, but...

The GPS is not a gimmick if it works well. Currently, I use different solutions to geotag my photos from a DSLR and a PnS. It's cumbersome. I look forward to the day that all cameras come with GPS built in. =) It's one of those things that you can do without. But once you've tried it, you can't imagine what it would be like without it.

Wonder how it will affect battery life though.

wow s6000 looks good

Yeah, i like the grip too..
Looks like some sort of armour.
Most prob will be the best grip out of all compacts.

One thing i will worry about will be the dial.
The interface wasn't good for the p5100.
It would be better if they made 2 dials instead of 1.
Somewhat like a DSLR.

Built in GPS and ethernet port. Nice...

the ethernet port will generally be useless if it can only be used for Nikon's own uploading webby. "my Picturetown"...

if only it can be used to simply transfer the files to harddisk/ pc/ routers/ etc etc

Oh I see. Haha didn't know there was such thing as geotag.

If I'm not wrong, for P5000 and P5100 the 0.9fps can be increased, if you use lower megapix. Maybe it will be true for P6000 too.

Will this be available at COMEX?

P6000 is scheduled to be on sale on 12/09, wonder when it will be available locally and will the price be below $600 like the previous models?

P6000 will be on sale tomorrow but the accessories will be later.

Hopefully some bros will actually buy it and give their reviews. But judging by the initial response...

One guy in Japan had already uploaded some pictures taken with the P6000 here.

He also said that the GPS in the P6000 seems to be a advanced model from Garmin but did not state how fast/slow was the time needed to detect the satellites.

No mention of autofocus speed yet...

It feels good. The AF is fast, I think faster than LX3.

Fast? I gave it a try and felt it was a bit slow. Not very impressive, I will say.

Looks like have to give GX-200 another look.
