So, is the 17-35 or 17-55 f2.8 better in terms of optics quality?

Seriously .. i still find 17-35mm better in terms of image color. but take note, 17-35mm produces different degree of quality at different stops.

Singapore's second market for the 17-35 is finally getting mature in pricing. A new one costs S$2100- S$2300 in the US, Japan and HK... Only Singapore is selling for 2700 - 2800.

If u look around some of the posts that were offering grey sets at 2250 recently, u would then realise that there is still some money to be made selling new grey sets at those prices. So someone asking 2k for a used set without warranty in mint condition is competing with those selling grey at 2.2k.

Again using Japan and the US as price efficient benchmarks, the used market ranges from SS$1.4k to 1.7k. Singapore's market as such is getting to those market prices.

$2250 for grey sets is not worth. :nono: I was offered brand new grey sets going for ~$1900-$2100. However I don't do grey, thus never bother about it. :(

Also main reasons if a brand new with warranty can get ard $2450 then why takes risk to get grey @$2250?

Grey is not worth.. get original... always.

so called grey, no warranty somemore, once spoil within the first year you gonna 哭爸哭妈 already...so only get original..no $$, be like me 等等等 while you save save save then after that you can BBB

Which lens doesn't? ;)

think 200 dollars for warranty for a year is worth 10% of the lens price. to some, it is really alot of money.

to me i think it is all a matter of what risk one is prepared to take in return for a known savings.

it is indeed interesting to note that one can get grey sets from 1.9k! ;p

i have been looking through the japanese used lens market and a second hand set ranges from 115,000 yen to 135,000 yen (take this multiply by 0.014) or approximately S$1610 to S$1890. this is for condition 9+ to mint condition lenses.

there seems to be alot of lens sales of the 17-35 of late even in japan and i think most are moving to the wider range 17-55 for their digital purposes.

for those who want to save a buck or two...u may consider buying lenses for your friends whilst u are in japan. go get yourself a japanese magazine from kinokuniya and read through the many offers they have there........and u will be surprised how overpriced things are for most things in singapore.

oh yes.. i think the guys meant original as in lenses with singapore warranty and grey as in lenses without singapore warranty (or even sometimes without any other country's warranty).

as far as i know, they are all original (as in made by nikon).

the difference in only in the warranty applications.....

perhaps those technically inclined may want to read the definitions posted by us photographic companies on what grey means.

have fun!

Nikon lenses have 1-year worldwide warranty if it's purchased (not smuggled or its equivalent) brand new from a reputable shop / authorised dealer... be it in Japan, HK or S'pore. And lenses (but not necessary bodies, etc) are indeed cheaper in HK. The baby (SLR) trinity can be had easily for blow S$2100-00. But unless you happen to be there or have friends who's willing to bring them over, there's not really much of a choice.

Nikon products are indeed overpriced in Singapore. Nothing could change that if there're no direct competition and as long as there're demand for them.

Is there a different for 17-35mm lens between USA and Japan? They sometimes use the term USA lens or imported lens (maybe from Japan)???
