hmmmm not sure about the price of Lowepro bags, but if you are looking for Tamrac bags, TK Photo's prices are a good $30 higher than Ms color.

Tamrac Adventure 7 - 120 @ TK, 90 @ MS
Tamrac Adventure 9 - 200 @ TK, 170 @ MS

So maybe for bags, go AMK the best? haha...

I just talked to its lady boss this afternoon. She actually owns another camera shop in shanghai. You guys can visit and see the shanghai shop via webcam live on her LCD. She is accompanying her daughter here.
Anyway, orient photo is mainly selling export sets at very good price.

do they offer installment?

Comparing Tamrac Adventure 7 and Tamrac Adventure 9 the price diff is quite a lot.

Canon BG-E4 1yr Intl Warranty for $340/GST NETS.

Grey sets are not fake.

The problem is that quality control nowadays is not very good. Electronic stuff fails on me more often nowadays than it did before. This is why I now insist on having a warranty, which I've had to use a few times.

The other issue is where the grey stuff comes from. If they are simply parallel imports from another country, that's fine. But it is possible that grey sets are actually factory rejects (ie failed quality control) and have been smuggled onto the market by unscrupulous individuals. Of course, the original manufacturer would not want this to happen, because it will affect their reputation for quality, but there are many links in the supply chain where this could possible happen.

I've bought Nike and Puma sports equipment which are 'B' grade in other countries. They are call factories outlet. The 'B' stuff from that store look exactly like the one sold in normal shops at mall. I can't see the difference really in stiches or anything. The 'b" grade are at least 30-40% off the normal retail. That factory outlet actually carry a sign that tell the consumer this is a 'B' grade product, thereby informing you.

What I think is that in today cut throat competition, companies cannot afford to waste or throw away those that does not pass their QC level and they will try to sell those off at a attractive price to recoup cost but of course will imply that they are 'B' grade stuff to those who buy them. It is then up to those companies that buy those 'B' grade products enmass and inform consumers that they are buying a 'B' grade product. I don't think 'B' grade items are bad or not usable, but the big brand companies cannot guarantee them as 100%, maybe 80%-90% (my thoughts only).

We wouldn't know where those grey shops take their products from and the risk is always there. I'm not implying that OP carry 'B' grade stuffs. But just to let you guys know Big Brand 'B' grade stuffs DO exist.

I quite agree with streetShooter that with so many links in the supply chain, anything could happen.

Found out the hard way bring the warrenty down to NSC to clean and the you still need authroised dealer reciept :(

And she also talks to the people in the Shanghai shop sometimes while you're there.. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Via internet phone, I guess. I got shocked because for a moment I thought she was talking to thin air, then I saw the webcam.

While I applaud your concerns and intentions, we are talking about cameras/lenses here and the QC is more stringent and rejects will not come into the market, companies like Nikon/Canon can just not afford these things to happen, please lah! These are not shoes or other lower end items where a little cosmetical blemish is ok......

I know many shops in HK that sell grey imported items for many many years, and they are just importing on their own, they are no different from the ones you buy from Cathay, it is just that they were bought from another country. They will just look around in the US, Europe, Asia and buy wherever it is cheaper. So goes the same for these Chinese chops in Beijing/Guangzhou/Shanghai......although many also sell with official China warranty.

Just because this is a chinese shop it doesn't mean that they are selling less than 100% goods. You may not be implying that OP sells these, but you do so indirectly.....

Not every sector works the same, you can't assume because Nike/Adidas does it, so Nikon/Canon also does it..........

Gray, what's the diff? My sis who lives in the US comes to SG and buys in SG. Goes back home and the product is not warrantied. It is the same product that anyone would have used, just that SG recognizes the set and in the US, it is not recognized. Same product, considered gray in other countries.

If you think the same about cars, how is the car suddenly not the same just because it traveled from Japan to Singapore? :dunno:

Hi all,

Just to add my 2 cents worth of comments:

True, it is indeed so that electronics have much higher QC rates and hence, the chances of such "B" grade goods are rarer.

But however, all these (including Streetshooter) comments are just purely conjunction on our own part - unless anyone has really worked in the electronics industry, no one really knows.

It's like those unscrupulous electronic dealers who place the item(s) back for sale when the buyer returns them for a 1-1 exchange due to minor, hardly detectable issues like back-focusing, noisy AF etc etc.

But however, one interesting thing to take note would be that the concept of grey isn't that popular in SG as in other countries like HK and US. Even when I told my friends that I bought my grey Sigma 10-20 from OP, they mentioned "chiong goods is it?" :bsmilie: Of course, I do admit that OP offers great pricing, and honestly, I'll continue to patronize them.

On our part, we need to redefine our thinking of what are grey goods, but on the other hand, caveat emptor always applies, regardless of grey or official goods.
