Anthony: I sent it out on Friday, hopefully it gets to you by today. Hmm, I saw some product shots of the 40mm before, looks very compact for a fast lens. Fetches a pretty penny as well.

Just the other day, I went for a macro shoot, and did some comparison during my break. I shot the 28mm f2 with and without my Raynox closeup filter just for kicks. Thought i share the shots here.

OM Zuiko 28mm F2 @ F2 (with Raynox 250 closeup filter):

I Love the close-up better. I have the original OM 25x 1:1 extention tube which I can use on all my lenses. will shoot some photos for comparison. Just received the film, thanks.

closed up. OM 80/4 + 65-116 auto extender + A-Macro convertor f=40. This combination gives 2:1 , I think. I don't know how to calculate the magnifications yet and the OM table is not so clear. I am still trying to find if there is a helicod focusing mechanism for this lens to make highre magnification. Mine is the version I which is a manual preset lens. This is my first manual preset lens and I took a while to learned that the focusing ring is not a focusing ring, but used to close the aperture. It says in the OM table that there is a focusing helicoid. The search is still on...

If anyone knows how to read this table, please help to see if it is 2:1 or 2.2:1 magnification when fully extended to 116.

i just got my hands on an OM-1 with 50 f3.5 macro... wow... i ve played abit with the om system before, but never with an OM-1.. now i understand why its got a following.. small but solid.. pity it can't mount nikon lenses =\

Yes, i agree, I have the OM1 and its a joy to use, timeless, compact and reliable.

yeah, after that unload, and check clear. The winder is very compact as well, improving the overall ergonomics of the camera without making the whole setup looking too bulky.

Dinner at some random cafe, I decided to take the 50mm f1.8 MC ( 5 mil variant ) and 28mm f2 for some casual snaps on the 5D. And my the 50mm very very sharp, even at f1.8. In the picture below, you can even see my GF's contact lens and pores? The color is also pretty good, neutral and natural looking. No wonder there's a following for that lens online.

Then I also brought along the 28mm f2, it was very useful for closeups, and getting some of the environment in the image at the same time. Its speed is also beneficial for indoor lighting or interiors

I really had fun capturing my evening out with my other half, with some very useful Zuikos and won't hesitate to recommend it anyone..Just slap on a Zuiko and let it rip!

Yes. these are at 1:1. I find I cannot handhold at 2:1. very tough. will try again tomorrow.

The OoF highlights are very round hor. You have got a very good copy of 28/2 and this is a very creative shot. :thumbsup:

thanks.yup, this copy seems to be working for me...i tried many angles before i managed to snag it at the right angle, just so that the bokeh balls would seem to float away from the angel's hand.

spent one morning chasing bees but find it almost impossible to do a 2:1 handheld or maybe my macro skills is not there, so gave up. I shall return with a tripod and flash.

In the meanwhile, I am still trying to like the 50/1.4. IMO, it has painterly qualities wide opened, almost like using a paint brush. This lens gives me a mixed feeling. I mean take photo until like painting, then I might as well paint. But this gives a unique look to it, very different. Do I like it, I can't really say yes. Do I not like it? It is special so how not to like it? It is abstract.

Lovely shots with painterly bokeh...I like how the OOF lends itself to become part of the image, rather than just being part of the background. I feel the same way about the Zuiko 55mm f1.2 too. I'm still putting it through the paces, and discovering something new about it whenever I use it. Fun stuff.

One thing I've noticed is that its more susceptible to flare whenever I point the lens towards a light source. The issue goes away after using the hood. Given my copy is one of the earlier single coated copies, I am not surprised. But I kinda like how I can focus close to 0.45m, a bonus i tend to enjoy when using Zuiko lenses.

I like these shots, very classic. Is the Nikon 50f1.2 better than this, and that's why you are selling it?

Hmmm, actually, I can't really tell if the difference is really that distinct, but perhaps i would say the Nikon has an edge due to a more recent lens design and multicoating. Of course the focal length is different. But in a perfect world, i would keep both, but in this case, i can only keep one.

Still, im still testing out the lens, and so far i like it Maybe we should have a 50s testing outing in future, it will be fun to see how different f1.2 lenses fare in a real world situation.

From my experience in using many OM lenses, the most "painterly" lens in my whole range is the 50f1.4 s/no 1.14mil. It's ideal for landscape on FF when shot at f8 to f11.
