Anthony, I heard that the 35f2 has the problem that some copies are not that well-made, in terms of colour and sharpness, and it's a bit of hit and miss?
That's what many said about this lens. Being a 35f2, there are more older variations and these are the ones that can be problematic. The "made in japan" printed on the lens rim version should be alright. Mine bears s/no 15xxxx and I was told those with s/no above 15xxxx are more consistent. I used to own the 35f2.8 which was very well corrected and very sharp wide open but I didn't like it's rendering, not as dramatic as the 35f2, some call it painterly.
