are you sure this is F1.4!?!?! If you focus on baby pooh, I see the nose and the eye a bit blur already, seems like it is less than F1.4. Very short DoF.

The above pic shows the bokeh of the Takumar 50mm F/1.4 at wide open. I was focusing on the "Baby Pooh" wordings. I put a shiny chain behind the Pooh to show you the bokeh.
Hope I can poison you with this lens.

ooOoo! Lovely Creamy Bokeh! Poison X2! Now where can I lay my hand on this lens? :D

Taken with E-510 & 14-42mm kit lens @ f/13, 1/200s and ISO 200 ~ Cairo, Egypt.

Another sun flare shot captured by E-510 & 14-42mm kit lens @ f22, 1/40s and ISO 100.

Wow....this is damn skillful!!!!

BTW, I have found a camera strap for a walkabout shooter like u. Called the R strap. I just got it and I really like it. I think u should consider getting one too. Hahaha!

Haha, the Pooh's big head caused its eyes and nose out of focus.

Yes, that's how thin the DOF of F1.4 at close range. That's why I have replaced my E-510 focusing screen to a split focus to aid my manual focusing. Otherwise, it's very difficult to get a sharp focus.

Haha!! poisoning 任务成功!You may look around in the B&S threads, there are a few F/1.4 lenses available.

Btw, I have to say that your recent shots all look like post cards, some even look better than post cards. It's an enjoyment to look at your work.

hi ttiongch may i know where you get the split focusing done? I am using manual lenses and its really tedious...thanks!

I bought it at OP for $60, the sales person installed it for me. It's a China made focusing screen, there are some imperfections in its quality, (e.g. few stubborn dirts on the screen which I can't blow them off, and the screen is not as bright as the original AF one). Nevertheless, it's acceptable to me, because it really helps me in MF and it doesn't affect the image quality.

You may also find these China made split focusing screen in Ebay, which cost about S$30. I didn't choose that, because the info provided was too limited.

There is a US made one called Ketz Eye, which claimed to have a very good quality, but the price is way too high for me to justify it.

Hope that helps.:)

Thanks Oly5050 for the recommendation. The device looks really cool for a walkabout shooting!
Just wondering if changing battery would be easier as compared to the Matin's grip strap.
From the picture it looks like the base plate has to be removed totally before one can access to the battery door.
With the Matin grip one only needs to slightly release the tightening knob and pushing the grip base plate aside to access the battery door hence having the camera securely hanging onto your body without worrying about dropping the cam and still having your 2 hands free to change the battery.
Perhaps as you have suggested combining the 2 devices would be a more ideal and practical contraption?
Would love to try out the R strap on our next kopi session...........Any chance?

Here is another lucky "wu liao" shot :what: taken from a speeding car thru' the window on our long journey in the desert to Alexanderia city, Egypt. One can still see some window reflection in the sky area.
I had to crank the shutter speed high up in order to get a decent shot @ f/5.0, 1/3200s and ISO400.

Many nice photos here. Some shots with the kit lenses are remarkable!

Here's mine with 420 and pancake:

and 420 with 14-42mm:

A sunset silhouette shot from a moving car in downtown Cairo.

Shot under tough conditions of low ambient and colored lights with fast action routine dance. Taken with E-510 &14-42mm kit lens @ f/3.5, 1/20s and ISO 800.
This is one instance where you wish you have the f/1.4 lens or E-3 & SWD lense with you.
Most of the shots were missed rather than hit! It is even more difficult to get him smiling and facing you in your direction!

Yo! Adrewine, from your shots, you have already used your kit lens to its limit

You simply deserve a more powerful tool.... I think I have not poisoned you enough... :bsmilie:
