Olympus Announces the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 25mm F1.8 (50mm, 35mm equivalent)

Bro, can share where you rent the 75mm and how much it costs? The 75mm is my dream lens but it is abit too expensive. It will be good if I can rent this to try first before plunging it.:)

Understand ;) I'm renting the 75/1.8 for the weekend to do a shoot for a shop. Hope to be able to afford it one day.

Beautiful colours from your pics bro! That is why I am glad to join M4/3 with an Oly.:)

Oly colors have a 'warmer' feel to them and that's the reason why no matter what brand I sell or buy for my secondary cameras I will always stick to Oly for my main camera. The next best thing is that there's an option to 'switch' off this 'warm' color for users who prefer otherwise.

Personally , I have a soft spot for the Oly, Fuji & Leica colors. All can provide SOOC Jpegs that are simply good enough to eat. I tried Sony before with their RX100ii and Nex systems but never for long - not Sony is not good, I'm am just not good enough to fully utilize Sony cameras.

The gundam was shot in Auto mode through display glass on the DLux 6 and the Char Siew rice using an EP5 on Aperture mode , wide open on the 12-35/2.8. Both photos shared previously but ya, to just show the colors that OOC Jpegs that a entry level DLux 6 and an Oly EP5 can give.

From camera rental center :) just google for them. $35 to just rent the 75/1.8 , collect on Fri evening , shoot on Sat and return on Sunday by early afternoon. If u lazy to return to shop, it's $10 to just arrange for a courier

Bro keith, your pictures are really nice! Makes me feel like I made the right choice getting an oly:) Do you shoot with an em1? I recently purchased one and it seems like the camera makes a loud thud sound when it turns off. Was wondering if all em1s are like that? Sorry for the offtopic question.

Hi thanks :)

Yup, when switching off that instant u will feel a soft 'thud' , that's normal , probably just the sensor returning to its rest position.

EM1 , EP5 , EM10 an on all can do nice photos , the differences are in the handling and some functions here and there for example like HDR in EM1 and Live Composite in EM10 and wireless in all 3 etc.

Thks bro for the quick reply! Still learning how to fully utilise the em1:) but gotta say the 12-40 pro is pretty darn sharp.

Thanks for the info bro! :)

better dun rent...;p

Anyone tried recording video with the 25mm? Seems to me that the video would have the lens focusing sound.

Just gotten my set 2 days ago, really busy to shoot much. As tested the preview set with Spidey89, it's really an awesome lens and I knew I must have it. Reminds me of 45mm/1.8 really with perhaps bit better built, and the hood certainly a bonus for those who use it, i'm too lazy to bring out.
Just about what I can summarize abt this lens and who should get it, if it helps...imho
- Likes 25mm focal length (50mm equivalent on 135)
- Likes shallow depth of field (compared to what you would be able to get with the kit 14-42) for close portraits
- Wants to dabble into your first prime without burning a big pocket (relatively speaking compared to Panasonic 25/1.4)
- Owns Olympus camera, this lens would be much optimized than say panasonic 25/1.4 which is an excellent and brighter lens, but the chroma aberrations at high contrast situations can be an issue for some (those who doesn' have the software to correct it)
- quiet! no rattlesnake unlike Panasonic 25/1.4 and perhaps faster as well.
It's just that wee bit lighter which really doesn't matter.
No this doesn't mean if u have P25/1.4 and Oly camera u shld start selling, I know of friends who dun find the rattlesnake or CA an issue at all and absolutely wants that F1.4.
Did I mention the corner sharpness is very good too? shot with E-P5+O25/1.8 @ F1.8. The DOF is already very thin as I was close to the leaves.

100% Cropped

Nice pics Wong.
As usual your summary is spot on!

Hey guys, I have one question. Assuming you just shoot at 20-25mm range, if comparing the 25mm and with the 12-40 2.8, which one is more superior or gives a good IQ? Pls do not mention in the reasons about cost, versatility of zoom lens, etc here. Thank you.

The wider aperture of 25mm is already a winner in low light and bokeh. cost and versatility not mentioned:-)

100% Cropped

Nice photo! Only critique is inadequate DOF and the 100% crop isnt that great to be honest. Whatever, the photo looks real nice without it being blown up and I appreciate that. :-)

Silver is out from Olympus imaging Singapore in facebook, go and get yours now!

Haha, yeah. All those awaiting the silver ver finally can enjoy this lens :)
