Olympus Announces the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 25mm F1.8 (50mm, 35mm equivalent)

Nice lens. Would one really sell their 25/1.4 for the 25/1.8? Would the 2/3 stop make any difference? What's the price difference?

BTW, tested this lens, the one difference is the absence of that aperture noise over that 25/1.4. The built seems more robust that the plastic feel of the Lumix.

my take will be those who haven't own any 25mm similar lens can really seriously consider this lens.

I had hoped it would be more compact, but it's not much shorter compared to the 25/1.4. 30% lighter though.

Diameter / Length / Weight / Minimum Focus Distance
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 : 55.9mm / 60.6mm / 136g / 23.88cm
Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH: 63mm / 54.5mm / 200g / 30cm

Any local street price/news on this lens?

I think in the flesh, it'll feel substantially smaller and more "streamlined" in the hands than the Pana 25.

In terms of image quality how does this go against the PL 4/3 25mm f1.4? I read that the light intake of the 4/3 is better than m4/3 version in the same way that oly 25mm is better than the PL m4/3 25mm.

A while ago, I remember reading of people complaining that that the Panasonic 7-14mm has a weird occasional purple flare. When I saw those pictures in question, it was obvious that it wasn't a case of fringing, which people mistake; it was rather an issue with Olympus' sensor coatings.

I found a review of the 25/1.8, and lo and behold, here was an Olympus lens with a purple flaring issue.

Looks like the interest quite tame even though stocks are in...

At funan now but not going to buy yet.. Lol

Haha Keith..
Tested it just now on my 2 monkeys in funan..
Managed to capture them better than the kit lens..
FC also stamped approval..
So.... Status updated to owner haha.
I need to stay off these forums for a while.. Poison overload..

I was at Tk Foto to buy my EM10 earlier and got poisoned by the 25mm f1.8. It was my mistake to ask to try the 25mm on the camera. $480 poorer now..
