Phew. Done reading 26 pages of this thread.
Great information !
Planning to get a komine 28/2.8 and nikkor 50/1.2 ais for my 5D2.
Any challenges I should be expecting?
its been awhile since my last post.. mostly cos i'd moved over to using nikkor AIS lenses.. recently fixed up my konica hexanon 100 2.8 and fine tuned my cz 45 2.8 though so im getting to use them again =)

I never knew if existed until now.
What a wealth of info.
Still going through the pages.
Found myself with a 5Dc after some unintentional see-see-ask-ask at the local shop.
Decided to see for myself what it can offer over just shooting 135 format film for my existing lenses.
I suddenly found new life for my M42 lenses spanning UWA to short tele (and a 400/4.5 too).
Hope to get to those in time and post some shots here.
This one is with a M42 mount Soligor 17/4.
There does not seem to be any info on this lens.
I suspect its a early version or spin off from the Tokina 17/3.5, but can't be sure.
Generally built like a tank, but the plasticy aperture ring is the only odd weak point out of the whole build of the lens.
Can't complain much about this lens.
On crop, its about as sharp as my Sigma 10-20.
On FF, its edges aren't that sharp (but I take it as common on FF).
Flare resistance is nothing to talk about. (ie. ok so long as its not pointed in the direction of the Sun, but I don't have a hood...yet)
Personally, its cheap for a UWA on FF and still take pictures.
Wow! Excellent shot!![]()
Jupiter 9 85/2.
I thought I'd shelved this lens as a lemon.
Came to me with a stiff focusing ring and was soft at f2.
I left it as it was for a few years after a DIY clean up job to remove grease from the focusing mechanism as it came to me with a stiff focusing ring.
With the 5D, I decided to try out this lens again since it was M42 mount and I needed a 85mm short tele for portraits.
I'm quite surprised by the results.
Still soft from f2-f4, and not contrasty, but does seem to be rather characterful.
Colors seems rather cool and I had to bump almost every shot taken with it with 100-200K of WB adjustment.
I find that it seems to do B&W better, mainly due to the low contrast.
Perhaps because of the poor coatings (or none) or that it was designed before color film.
Anyone got thoughts on this lens?
Wow! This must be 15-blades wonder.
Manual lenses on digital bodies are poisonous you have been warned. See what others can do with jupiter9.

I've noticed lines within the round highlights... very suspicious.
Imagine that being translated into the image.... not good..
But for me, this lens still takes pictures![]()
Micro scratches?
