Old/alternate lenses, adapters, and lens mount conversions.

I am thinking of doing this but lugging 2 large camera around is not so fun. Also the test results will be questioned, eg different post processing, taken at different resolution, compressed for web resolution yield different results blah blah blah....so I don't find any joy in doing it.

Yup, sometime people are asking too much. Like you own them the result.
There are even worst case especially in the newbie session and sub-forum especially in the C and N side where they expected to be spoon-fed immediately after creating an account. What's worse is that some of those people even bite your hand after you feed them.

Anyway, this same photo cross posted in the OM thread is taken using SLR/c. Note this is just to showcase the DR, contrast (look at the leaves) and the bokeh and rendering. No crop, raw converted to jpg and only slight adjustment of curves. Please don't flame me for posting a badly composed photo (like the idiot in another forum). I didn't shoot this photo to enter any competition.

Have to get used to it in this forum. There are people like that and might be even more worst.

There is nothing wrong with this photo. Which lens did you use, the OM 35-80f2.8 or your Contax N? I like the color, very nice subject isolation and yes very smooth transition bokeh. The color rendition of the SLRc is very natural. Sure like to see some close-up portraits to see how it renders skin color, especially with your Contx N 50f1.4.

I know u guys are talking about film cameras. How come no one is interested in Kodak DCS Pro SLR/n ?

There is one here, rather low shutter count

There is another here which may be going for a good price but higher shutter count.

I was actually thinking of getting one before i got the 5DII though :bsmilie:

The lack of AA filter makes quite a difference

I meant to take it as a test shot so even if there is something wrong with it, it is ok. The strong sun created shadows on the leaves which I felt is a good gauge of contrast, colour, tones, DR, etc.

Anyway, not on SLR/c but N50 on 5D2. I think you are looking for a sample like this. Trust me the Sigma 50/1.4 is by far the best 50mm I have tried for portrait. The N50 is more suited for products and still life. But then some people like the Zeiss look on portrait.

I know but sometimes it is the way the comments are phrased that I think it is uncalled for. Anyway, no big deal.

I have one eye on the Leica M8. If nothing interesting comes out of m4/3 by 2011, I may pick one up. The original M8 does not have AA filter.

You are right, I prefer the Zeiss look for its cooler rendition. My favorite if definitely the CZ85f1.4. One day I will try both the Siggy 50 n 80f1.4, but I need to relearn how to AF.

C/Y CZ 85mm F1.4 is one of my few favourite, but sold due to funding for BBB and lack of usage. While the image produced is great, the chance to use is lower as I find 85mm is a bit far as compared to 50mm.:(

That was my favourite machine gun combo... a calibrated siggy 50/1.4 on 5d2! ;)

tell me about keeping favourite lenses and those that you utilised more. I think I need to downsize.

If you can afford and not badly affected by any BBB, just keep your lens. I have a few rare babies and no selling no matter what. C/Y glasses are still not hard to find in the market, compared to funding for a chance to get a good conditioned EF 80-200mm f2.8L, I think it is a good trade as I have been hunting for the Lens for almost a year. Currently, targeting at FD 85mm F1.2L for my F-1 new:think:

I am badly affected by the BBB for a while. Now am trying to rationalize what I should keep. I rather not keep those that I do not use for too long. Lenses do not appreciate in value except for a rare few. Even then, it is only till when the next good lens in the same focal length appears. End of the day, I am not a collector, I am only a sucker for lenses with good IQ.

The closest shot I can get of a stranger with a N50 on SLR/c today.

@ f1.4. The SLR/c is really an outdoor camera. AF have difficulty locking indoor and the lens keeps hunting till I switch it to good old manual focus.

@ f4. Note this one is cropped heavily as I don't want to get too near to photographing kids in case I got mistaken for a peadophile and I don't like the idea of strangers photographing kids too. But these few are having so much fun tumbling down a hill that I cannot resist a snap from far. I am amaze at the IQ despite the heavy crop. You can also see the camera performs much better outdoor.

I thought this lens is alternative enough to mention it here. Olympus OM 80mm + Auto extender 65-116 + A-Macro convertor. Magnification 2:1

Love the color rendition of the SLRc. Aren't u suppose to use this cam between ISO 6 to 100? On a bright clear day, I will use it for exceptional landscapes and maybe some outdoor family type portraits on a tripod.

Ya, but there are certain glasses that you might have been looking around for it for months or so and find that you can't bear to part with it? Most Legacy Lens are already at their lowest cost, so even if you want to sell them some other time, provided you take good care of them, they still can sell at a good price.;)
Nowadays, lens even got MK II and the older glass price can drop...

Actually this craze about rare lenses can take its toll on one's sanity. If I were to start all over again, I will just own a 60D or D7000 or K5 with a standard zoom, most likely like the Canon 17-55f2.8 and be done with it. I have thought about this many times, only to end up with more lenses. So, since about 3 months ago I decided to keep what I have and so far, I am very satisfied with what I have. One little problem though, this guy MWP is spoiling my peace.

He is rubbing you on where the BBB damage most? Go view the japanese viewfinder thread and let the poison soak into you:bsmilie:

The lowest on the dial is ISO 160. I am too lazy to read the manual how to get to the special low ISO. It is something like the ISO expansion on the 5D2 where you have to press a few buttons. Anyway, I am very happy with ISO160. Another problem I am facing is it does not read my Sandisk 8GB CF and my 1GB card gets filled up in no time. So I really have to treat this like a film camera - one shot one kill.

You spread the OM poison to me mah...so have to spread something back. :) It's easy if you already knows what you want. I don't, that's why ended up trying as much as possible. I have better idea of what I want to keep now. So my virus is clearing up. Now is really about letting go :( . I came from 40D and 17-55/2.8 and did not look back. There is something else though. If m4/3 goes FF or Zeiss ZM lenses are priced lesser than the ZE counterparts, I might consider going that way. But that will be another 2 years later.

What is japanese viewfinder? Anything interesting there?
