I think there's more testing to be done as even Roger concludes this himself. But the results do look very positive for the A7r. There's a thread at Dpreview that Roger himself is participating in so that's something interesting to follow.Sure, it's just an interesting side note. When the 55mm 1.8 is out, I'm sure you will see a few head to head tests. The Otus is clearly a better lens overall, especially with the careful corrections for night time shooting, but the D800E sensor looks clearly inferior, being a previous generation Sony 36MP. I'd be more interested in a A7r/55FE1.8 against the D800E/Otus551.4
What's most surprising about the results are the numbers from the D800e with Zeiss ZF.2 50mm/f2 @f5.6 vs the A7r with Zeiss ZE 50mm/f2 at f2 and f2.8 via metabone adapters. I assume they are the same lens but for different mounts unless I'm mistaken.
I wonder why he didn't use the same ZF.2 copy to mount onto the A7r to compare. That would isolate just what the sensor's doing. Maybe they didn't have any metabones Nikon adapters available?
