In the center, both at f/2.8 and at f/4

It's a combination of camera and lens. If the Otus is mounted on the A7r, it would be similar.
OK but don't forget the Otus can also be used at f/1.4 which makes a huge difference. I don't see much sense in comparing them, totally different perspectives and speeds, both are more important than the sharpness when you choose a lens first. The sharpness comes after that. ;)

Sure, it's just an interesting side note. When the 55mm 1.8 is out, I'm sure you will see a few head to head tests. The Otus is clearly a better lens overall, especially with the careful corrections for night time shooting, but the D800E sensor looks clearly inferior, being a previous generation Sony 36MP. I'd be more interested in a A7r/55FE1.8 against the D800E/Otus551.4

Yeah, the electronics in the D800 are probably a bit dated by now, it's almost 2 years old now.

Hi all, I have a doubt on whether I can mount tamron 28-75mm f2.8 on A7? Do I need to use any adapter? My lens is for sony A mount previously.

Your lens is for Sony A mount. The A7 is a Sony E mount camera... Go figure.

Can try mount on LA-EA 4 and see whether the AF can work well on it or not.

There are three types of adapters to allow this.

The first is a simple adapter that you can buy off ebay or CHIIF Camera in Excelsior. CHIIF sells Kipon brand. It just adapts the lens mount. Cost is from $20 (ebay) to $120+ (CHIIF). You only have manual focus and no electronics between lens and camera as there is no electrical connection.

There is the LA-EA3 adapter. This will give you electrical connection and everything works like it would on an A-mount camera. However, the adapter is probably around $300 and focus is slow because A-mount lenses weren't designed for use with mirrorless cameras like the A7, which rely on contrast detect auto focus, whereas A-mount lenses are designed for Phase Detect autofocus or PDAF.

Lastly, there is the LA-EA4 adapter. This adapter has a mirror in it and converts the A7 into a Sony DSLR (or technically SLT) from a mirrorless camera and adds PDAF. You get fast autofocus and full electrical connections. However it is around $450.

Thanks all for the fast reply! Will try it on the adapter options. =)

Your tamron will not AF at all with the la-ea3. Will need the la_ea4 and probably need to do first time AF microadjustment.

I have the tamron 28-75 2.8 and La ea4 works well without any adjustments.

Yeah, just that you can't unscrew the adapter. :) It makes more sense to buy them in a SLR mount version so you can use them at least with two different systems.

precisely.

but who would unscrew the adaptor to use it :bsmilie:

practically useless since Samyangs are all MF without electronic contact points. even taking apart the lens to get the adaptor makes it just a useless hollow piece of metal.

Adding to your post..... I did try the Sigma 35mm Sony Mount..... tried with LA-EA3... but it just keep on hunting and hunting.... not able to lock focus..... had to use the LA-EA4...... so better try first before buying....

But if anyone getting the A7/A7R.... think there is a PWP for the LA-EA4.... $300++ I think.....

On a separate note, are we able to use shutter release (if any available; not using the iPhone app tho) to do long exposures?
