Depends on how thin your DoF is, it can be tricky to sorely rely on peaking. Well, at least when I use it.

Yup it's very much lens dependent - the faster the lens is (in terms of wide open apertures) the better it works relying on peaking alone without magnification - I was able to very reliably focus the CV 50mm f1.5 M mount version without using magnification maybe 60-70% of the time. I focus the lens only at the biggest aperture of the lens, then stop down to the shooting aperture if I am not shooting wide open, or stop down by feel till the EVF shows correct exposure - I don't use aperture priority at all, only manual, so I already know what shutter speed I am at, so the only thing I need to do is to stop down before shooting if needed.

Peaking is usually set at high and color yellow for best visibility.

With wider M lenses, I do lower the peaking level - usually for the wides i tap a button twice quickly to zoom in to confirm focus (though with a 35mm lens, I usually already know what distance I am set, and hence the focus is already quite there) if needed before shooting. Here the deeper DOF, especially when stopped down a little means I'm not so worried about the focus.

U R getting there bro...

Do you guys use remote release when taking long exposure landscape shoots?

Which remote do you use and where can I buy them?

Actually I found the opposite is true. The focus peaking is working very well for me and I just shot a wedding plus an indoor event with a fair number of shots with the A7 using focus peaking with a single 50mm M mount lens. I have found that with practice, I don't even need to use the magnification feature at all....

Yup sometime magnification worsen the situation.

Hey guys

I just landed at Singapore, and snagged up an a7R, 35/2,8 and NEX-3N. GST absorbed by the vendor.

Highly recommend the folks over at Electronics Hub, T3!

RMT-DSLR2 IR remote trigger. You can get them at sony stores or most other photo equipment retailers

Smaller yes but not as tack sharp as the other lenses at 1.4 due to CA. Not bad for portraits but not suitable fkr landscapes. Hence I got the 1.2 instead

IMO unless I blow the pic up full size on the computer, I can't really notice the difference. Most obvious difference is the distortion and bokeh character. I've compared it to 35 'cron and summarit. Cron is better but 5x the price, Summarit is slight sharper but very slow and hard to have DOF. Hard to go wrong with CV 35/1.4, esp at the price people are selling (good resale too).

After debating about it for a long long time (last 2 years!), I finally just kept my CV lens and enjoy photography instead. The size of the CV is incredible too.

The CV 35 f1.2 v2 is heavy T_T

You don't have to. Just set the shutter mode to 2 sec delay. In most cases it's a perfect substitute

I found this detailed guide very helpful compared to the manual given in the box:

Thanks Bro, finally got the NFC on my S3 to work thru the manual. Those bros that still have problem can PM me. Cheers.

2 sec delay is delay the shutter trigger? Or keep the shutter open 2 sec from time open from time of trigger?

You're most welcome. The manual that comes with the camera is ****.

It did mentioned that we can download this more detailed guide via the net....just another way of Sony saying " yeah, we're too cheapo to print a thicker copy"

No, it will delay the shutter closure 2 sec.

How do I get grid lines (two thirds) to appear on my view finder or LCD?
