Everywhere I go, I definitely see a A7(r) . Just spotted one guy with a manual lens.

Set your a7 focus mode to AF-C.
Edit: "and focus point: multi"

The other option is : use object tracking ( Choose activate by half press shutter ).

Tried. Still the same le. The green still in the center

Hi Bros

Wanted some advice from you guys.

I had a Nikon D800E and from personal experience, I realised I had to set minimum shutter speed of 3 x focal length in order to get sharp image, at whatever the aperture. And I find it really hard and frustrating to use at times.

I wonder if this is the same experience with the a7r, since it has the same 36 mpx as D800E.

I really could not figure out why despite correcting all the techniques and stabilisation mechanics. I could only get sharp image on a tripod.

So I have thinking of getting the a7r because I rationalise that the light body plus the lack of mirror flap will negate the problem above.

Your thoughts?

PS: My apology Bro Thoth for double posting.

Hmm thats strange. What lens were you using on your D800E ? I believe its not an issue of the sensor or camera. Be it D800E or A7r , it largely has to do with your shooting posture and how steady your hands are and breathing techniques.

If you are using OSS lens on D800E still need to use up to 3 x focal length to keep a sharp image, you may well face the problem on other cameras again.

Though i must say , the light weight of the camera definitely helps abit.

No worries, answered U. Cheers

Were you on object tracking ? when its turned on , the focus box will be following where your object is.

Sorry where do I select object tracking. Cant seem to find 'Object Tracking'

Hello, may I ask a favor from A7(R) owner to try to shoot 2 photos, one with speed booster adapter (in crop mode) and another with dummy adapter (in FF mode) with the same lens. I want to see how both FOV will differ. If both photos have similar FOV, then we can have the following benefits using speed booster in A7(R);
1)Light gain from the nature of the SpeedBooster
2)Less noise photo due to lower pixel density from FF sensor relative to APS-C
Hope someone can confirm this. Thanks.

have to see who has both adaptors to try. but somehow i see no point of using an a7r in "crop mode" even if you get the FF FOV using the speed booster, and you are only using the center part of the excellent sensor. The lenses used will be the regular big and heavy full sized DSLR lenses as well, and pixel coutn will be less then the A7 now.

Bro can u explain further on

The tracking vs afc. They are like similar when to use which.

In nex, there was touch screen, I mostly use tracking for video during dolly shot. For still never use before.

Now come to a7, not very clear. Esp the manual... Quite useless

Tried. Still the same le. The green still in the center

What are your settings for the following when u tried:
1. Focus point
2. Focus mode

In theory, what u will be doing with the speed booster is to concentrate whatever that would illuminate the whole ff sensor to the crop centre portion, retaining the same fov and dof. You gain the extra stop of light (allowing for faster SS), but you lose detail because of lower megapixels. I would believe this move is not worth it. And the speed booster is so much more expensive.

36mp is more demanding for sure and though A7r is lighter than D800E, you will need a steady hand to get really sharp photo. I have both, and both using lenses without OSS.

Using a faster lens help, or increase the shutter speed.

I agreed with you. But my objective will be the light gain, if the theory is correct, you may gain as much as 2 stops or maybe more (one from SB and the other from FF sensor). I think it still worth it if you already own a SB with nex and I like to shoot indoor without flash. Furthermore, with SB, the whole setup is shorter than dummy adapter but more heavy. If shoot with A7R in crop mode, I think you will still get about 16M photo. But resolution will not my main priority. Cheers.

See the symbol next to 3:2? Thats the tracking AF mode. Press Fn to activate your selection into the menu, and go to that to turn it on. to use it, press the C3 button ( which is the dustbin/delete button) to activate

can check with bro obelix. he has the speedbooster, not sure if he has gotten his hands on a A7/r

Theoretically, you will then be using the A7r like a apsc nex camera. You will reap benefits of a better sensor technology compared to your older NEX sensor. But in terms of light sensitivity , i think its the same . Reason being, you are just using a smaller part of the entire fullframe sensor. So the density would be the same per area ?

This is different from down sampling the same image to a lower resolution if I am not mistaken

Or u could set it to be activated by half shutter press. Which is what I do.. Save the trouble of pressing another button.

Bro for the eye af.

I assigned it to one button it will focus on eye but when I half press shutter it go back to the area the spot af box was at.

Am I doing it wrong ?

Based on my short experience on the Eye AF, this is what I have observed. You have to keep pressing and holding on to the button assigned for Eye AF while pressing the shutter release button to take the photo.

Hi bro, that my experience using afs also.

Haven try other mode to see if it can Hold focus even when shutter is unreleased.

So far quite accurate. Able to find the eyes

By the way, anyone has picture of artist and artisan silk cord on a7?

Where you you guys get it in singapore?
