Do you mean 35mm equivalent adapted SLR lenses or 35mm focal length lenses? Where did you gather the info that lenses have to be stopped down on the A7R?

I mean 35mm focal length lenses...I have seen photos shot with CV35/1.2 II @f1.2 & f1.4 looking bad with purple cast. Same goes with a couple of other 35mm lenses (can't recall which one now as I don't have that particular lens) Perhaps this is expected as I have never previously shot with any Leica Digital M cameras before so I have little idea of what to expect.

I thought the magenta cast cannot be avoided on adapted M-mount UWA lenses. Anyone knows how adapted DSLR UWA lenses will perform?

Was just about to ask this question...I asked the sales rep of CP last week and they have no idea and told me to bring my Nikkor 12-24/2.8 to test when the camera is at the store.

I understand this...but I think Sony knew that many will be using third party lenses (also judging by the lack of E-mount lens choices at launch) since this is being marketed as an interchangeable lens camera.

For my own reason, I ordered this is so I could mount my Leica-M and Voiglander lenses on it, and for this I'm disappointed with the A7/R at it's current state. Perhaps the retail models will performs better...then again perhaps not?

You are right that Sony knows.. they are using the adaptability to their benefit too. But I don't think they put much funds or at all to ensure anything works well, it's just an happy accident for them that they are taking full advantage of. Business @_@
I don't have any investment in 3rd party glass, and am looking forward to the full FE lens roadmap, and 3rd party native mount like Samyang's 85mm F1.4 lens.

The above url states very well the diff between A7 and A7R for those who are still not sure which to get.

I do not think one has to be too worried about AF performance. As seen on the EOS-M, it is a matter of firmware update(s) over time. And for those adapting lenses, who cares! Those not happy with in camera jpg processing can shoot in raw so not a big issue really. The magenta cast is for adapted M-mount UWA lenses which is already known issue by now. Those shooting UWA may have to wait for Sony's native lenses.

I am curious if the AA filter is removed from the A7, will it affect the AF system? Anyone who have removed AA filters off Sony Alphas before can comment.

CDAF of the A7R vs CDAF+PDAF of the A7. I am reading that CDAF works best for mirrorless as contrast is detected off sensor ,ignoring lenses used. I am also reading CDAF+PDAF is faster and better because it has both methods. Which is true in the case of Sony A7 and A7R ?

[edited cos of ding donging decisions]
It won't [most probably] but it's unlikely even Sony is able to remove the AA filter without removing other stuff glued onto the sensor as well if at all. E.g. once the micro lens filter got removed the light efficiency of the CMOS sensor will drop below a CCD and it will affect PDAF as well because that's the most important ingredient for it.

No issue test shooting my cv35/1.7 ultron ltm on d A7. Just d usual CA.

You know what, I'll make my own lens.

If it doesn't work on the a7/a7R, I'll blame Sony. Their camera should work perfectly with all lenses!

I guess this test settles it. There is smearing and purple cast on even the A7 with the CV15 on A7. Now to rethink whether to get A7, A7r or not at all.

This is unacceptable and getting ridiculous by the minute...looks like Sony has pre-maturely released a half-baked product where even a 35mm lens has to be stopped down to avoid the dreaded purple cast. Cancelling my A7R pre-order today, unless someone wants to take my slot! :bheart:

The camera was not primarily designed for 3rd party lenses, so that statement is not fair. It's an Emount camera.

Still don't know what to get.. the price difference between A7 and A7r can almost cover for the FE35 lens.

I presumed it could perform better on post production models. A7 suffer less issues n possibly a better camera for adapted lenses. With further firmware updates, should b performing well.

the commentators on Alpha Rumors already spotted lots of inconsistencies in the images and have made their case.

first we had bad products from China, now badly-done reviews.

huzzah. long live Mao!

Just got mine from hk. Hehe

Perhaps most buyers should just stick to their toy camera and leave opinions and feedbacks to a guru like you, if that makes you happy. And if this pains you, then stop reading my post as I'm not asking for your expert advice. Geez...

Awwww butt-hurt much? Is it because of your your comments, which just show you are a half-baked wanna-be and your comments just get more ridiculous by the minute?

For you to think that it's a "premature" and "half-baked" product because your non-Sony lenses aren't auto-corrected just shows what a sad sense of self-entitlement you have.

Stocks are very very tight in HK now. Demand is still so high that it will be hard to get a good discount.

I think this is not fair statement. Sony did not said it design the A7s solely for legacy lenses. It like buying a Evo x and then blame it for not being a comfortable ride when the same amount can get u a Camry which focus on comfort.

Unless Sony own native uwa also have color cast, then I will join and scold Sony as well hahah

Friend got it for me a7r. No lens. Not sure which shop he got from.
Warranty can convert to singapore
