Maybe our needs is different.

Getting the body and the f4 zooms 24-70 with a few primes seems manageable for a start assuming u offload your existing gear.

I am not into Tele range . 24-70 plus a good prime seems a good way to start

From my estimate an A7, 24-70/4 and the 2 primes will set u back no less than $6k. Well, if that's manageable than ok lah. I suppose for leica owners having 5 figure gear, its " manageable" :)

That's why as an A-mount user, current camera doesn't makes sense for me to get. Those owning legendary lenses will. So, i still have to wait. Happy bbb to some.

Ouch.
I think Conorus modified Contax N Carl Zeiss lenses to fit Canon EF mount with AF function, metering + iris control - will also be hit.
No one will bother anymore. That is the end of Conorus' 财路.

Instead of spending money to buy the unmodified Contax N Carl Zeiss lenses + spend lots of time & money & effort & risk to send them to Canada to Conorus to modify. Why bother?

Now just spend that money to buy a new Zeiss lens made for Full Frame Sony A7/A7r and you got AF + metering + iris control.
Plus in future maybe IS too.

Yes, I have been thinking about the Contax N as well and shoot a few questions to him. The reply seems promising as Sony also claims the A7 has better hybrid AF algorithm. It remains to be seen what Metabone can do with their next generation of adapter. Some of the Contax N lenses are really good and I will hold on to mine. Of course it is probably too much of a hassle for a new user to embark on it.

"With adapter firmware version 18 (May 2013), autofocus has been enabled for NEX-5R and NEX-6, for all lenses with distance information support (which includes all Contax N lenses) even though f/1.4 lenses such as your Planar 85/1.4 may still not focus accurately. We have found the NEX-5R and NEX-6 to have an improved AF algorithm over previous models which makes accuracy with legacy lenses designed for phase-detect DSLRs much better than before, and also Metabones' own AF accuracy has improved."

IMO, the Sony A7 is probably better suited for those who want to use smaller lenses. If you are using big lenses, there is probably less need to look for a smaller body anyway.

I think the lens lineup is not good.

Why a 35mm f2.8? I thought they should be able to do f2.0 looking at RX1.

They should start with portable primes like fuji.

1) 35mm f2.0 or even f1.4 (the FF 35mm f1.4 lens are not really that big)
2) 85mm f2.0

To me FF is mainly about getting the DOF. nowadays sensor tech is pretty good and APSC sensors are excellent. There is nothing in it for me to get the R7 with 35mm f2.8 lens when Fuji is coming out with 23mm f1.4 APSC lens.
The lens lineup is perfect, they still need people to buy the RX1.

What I'm really hoping for is that the Metabones EF-Nex adapter will work just as well on the A7. =) Would be great to use tilt-shift on the A7.

Woohoo... I intend to use my OM and M42 lenses on A7. The fun is starting all over again. I may just buy the kit lens instead of the Zeiss zoom though.

I have time as I am very happy with my 5N and my range of very in-expensive Nikon ais lenses. So I will wait to see which one will render n suit me better, the A7 or
7r. Has been waiting for this cam for 2.5 years, so plenty of time to choose and test. I nearly went the OMD EM-1 way because it's such an attractive little dynamite.

Not sure what you mean. A7/r reviewers already said it works.

There's a difference in DOF between an APS-C's f1.4 and a full frame's f1.4.

Look to the future, not now. There will definitely be other lenses in the future

The kit lens, 28-70 f3.5-5.6 looks good on the A7, just like my trustworthy 18-55 on my 5N. For normal usage, this will be sufficient. And since my legacy lenses are all retrofocus SLR type, A7 with kit lens may be enough.

Based on USD price

Body 1699
F4 zoom 1199
35 prime 799

3700 usd maybe around 5k.

Offload existing gear, the additional outlay would be managable esp with dec bonus hahaha

While every body budget and goal are different but still I think the price points are lower than I imagined esp if the lens are as good as fabled

Hahaha...u mention a "few" primes leh so my $6k estimate includes the 55/1.8 and also an external flash. Anyway a few of the lens incl the 24-70/4 only out next year. I think use PB better. Dec bonus for Christmas :)
