Yeah, I was inspired by the photos from the A7/R image sharing thread. Problem is I dont have an idea on the price of those fast manual lenses. And I also dont know where to look for them. Was hoping some of you could share with me where I could look. I know I said nothing beyond $800 but of course the cheaper (with good quality), the better.
Its a bit unclear what you want.
35mm? 50mm? 85mm? longer?
Too many good stuff out there.
My advice is to plan what you want and purchase as a 'set' if possible.
With that I mean eventually getting a practical range of focal lengths from the same mount.
That makes it easier to manage lenses and adapters when used outside.
For example you got 3 brands and 4 lenses on a tour.
You then need to manage another 3 adapters and one of which you need to remember which lens need to change lens which needs to change adapter.
That can be a hassle when in a location where you need to do it fast.
There are other strategies too like maybe just FE mount 16-35, FE55 and only the short tele 85mm,100mm,135mm needs an adapter.
MHO, Canon FD is a steal.
Problem is cool colour rendering (so be sure you can handle this) and orphan mount usable only because of A7 (so can't use on most other cameras unless another MILC)
RF lenses, do your research. Many are not that good off centre on the A7 system because of the sensor stack thickness. Its not a lens problem, its a camera problem matching these lenses thats not optimised for it.
SLR lenses - plenty of good ones out there. Some have been passed over by trends more than others and are therefore cheaper. An example are most 100, 105m portrait lenses (as 85mm seems more 'sexy' nowadays).
Sorry but would like to ask 85mm got what poison for a7s? I like the looks from the zeiss 50mm f2 planar.
Nice and small - Pentax M85/2 (Olympus is also very small, but more ex and orphan mount)
Less common Sonnar lens layout - J9 (also small, less all round reliable because of older coatings and less "razor" sharpness which is often the demand nowadays, beware of lemons); beautiful rendering when used in the right situations.
Reliable in most situations - most of the old Jap 85mm (PenCaNikSOly )
Cheap, f1.4, good wide open performance - Samyang 85/1.4 (but also not as sharp compared to others f4 and up; sometimes criticized for plain/boring bokeh)
