Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

Anyone managed to get rid of the annoying You are using NTSC pop up. I formatted the card completly in Windows and then formatted again in A7 to make sure nothing was there. Still get the pop up. Its not a warning it just states that I am using NTSC mode.

Guess its a Sony firmware fix only but if there is a solution I would like to know. I dont want to shoot in 25p or 50p. I feel 24p and 60p are better formats for videos.

Read that its a location-specific feature, since Sony assume that this part of Asia do not use NTSC as the broadcast standard, we "must" therefore use PAL. A bit arbitrary for this day and age.

Guess I will have to live with it unless Sony decides to change it in a firmware upgrade.

Hey there.. there is a way u can actually get rid of that irritating caution text...It went away when i switched from 50p to 60p (pal to ntsc ) a while back... Basically what u wanna do is delete every file inside [ make sure every photo or any content prior to setting change, 25p/50p video files, folders etc] then change settings on ur camera before u let the camera format ur card. An easier way is to use a fresh card for ntsc content and another for pal...

It's indeed irritating when the ntsc text pop up but it goes away with a fresh card or a clean card... Hope it works for u, it should actually...
u can see on this thread it has worked for others too. Post #7 and post #15.

Tried your method. Didn't work after format on computer delete all files. Then I saw this from Sony
http://www.sony-asia.com/microsite/dslr_userguide/ILCE-7/eng/contents/TP0000227261.html

When the NTSC mode is selected, the “Running on NTSC.” message always appears on the start-up screen each time you turn the product on.

Sorry it didnt work. I tried it again today switching back to "NTSC" and indeed even on a brand new card it doesn't seem to go away this time round...perhaps something to do with my current regional settings...On my previous attempt , it went away after i formatted the card...
I could try changing my region (factory setting re-setup) and test it again but currently my app's all done and im lazy to reinstall them all over again...It seems that the region of the camera is more or less locked after selection at intial setup screen , changing region in menu later on only changes time zone... And only a factory reset will "Erase" the initial region setting... I'll do with with the "ntsc" message for the time being if i need to film at 24p/60p

Yeah may give it a try later. Going on a vacation tomorrow. But Sony should fix this in a firmware upgrade. I dont wanna know if I am in NTSC and delay my camera start-up process. :)

Been trying to buy the FE 55mm f1.8. Called up a few places already - seems like out of stock everywhere? Too popular?

Try Sony Store at 313 Somerset.

If the biggest store in South East Asia doesn't have it, then it's really out of stock

That's already their biggest store? :O

Trying not to pay full retail for the 55mm f1.8 haha. Must support local camera shops. Unless there is a good mall discount that will take the edge off ?

Anyone has sample photos of A7 with CZ 24mm f1.8? Quite interested to see if there are artifacts/distortion at the corners.

I bought a new FE 55 mm F1.8 at SGD 1174 at SLRR compared to SGD 1050. For $120 difference, u get a new set w full warranty.

going to hk soon, what is the best price to get the a7r now and which adaptor should i get for use with canon ef lens? thanks.

By the way can you setup the manual focus assist to be an overlay in a floating window instead of being full screen?
