Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

this function sounds like the one they implemented on the fujifilm X-T1!!!
Haven't played with the X-T1 yet but I saw it on the GH4. Quite nice, I hate the full screen manual focus assist. :)

Some ppl dont like the split screen focus

Btw, any bros here use any shutter release button stickers on the a7/r? Like those from gariz... Do they fit nicely? Any comments on the adhesive (sadly a7/r's shutter button dun have the screw thread like those fuji cameras or rx1)? I'm thinking of getting those but not sure how it performs. Coming from a NEX, the shutter buttons of the a7 requires more pressure than that of the NEXs, which may to a certain extent affect stability during shot and shutter lag. Does the button stickers improve thr handling in this aspect?

i use the gariz stick on soft shutter release, works pretty well

More pressure? :O I think the A7 shutter button is way too mushy.

Personally, i find the button on the a7r really mushy as well...kinda hard to judge "half-press"..in the past my af confirm beep was always off on other cameras..gotta leave it on for the a7r if i were to do quick snaps...And till now i find it a mystery why they gave the shutter button that design and leave out the screw threads.Made no sense at all.

Indeed. I handled a few heavily used models where the A7's shutter buttons didn't have any resistance at all anymore. I think it wears off relatively quickly.

So I guess it would be a good investment to get the button stickers?

I don't see how it can prevent wear off. For AF the button has to get half pressed anyway unless you assign it to another button, same goes for the shutter.

the soft release buttons are fairly cheap u should give it a try... Initially i was thinking about those too but the size of the soft release buttons seem a little bigger than the a7's shutter button and am worried they might scrape off via the edges if i shuv the camera in a well padded bag...the rx1's got the same problem with button feel as well and many seem to be happy after using those screw on soft release buttons. I'm sure they make a difference in button feel just waiting for a7/r specifically sized ones .

My consideration was about compatibility too. I was afraid the generic gariz ones might be too big for the A7, rendering the button useless/ineffective. So trying to find out if many have had positive user experiences with it. Couldn't find alot of reviews online too.

As much as I wish for a A7 specific ones, I doubt gariz or any other manufacturer will manufacture different sizes for specific cameras as adhesive types are so generic.

Tempted to diy smth on my own by using 3M double sided tape and those small rubber stopper things u put on the feet of furniture... Fugly thou

3m has some drawer stoppers/bumpers, dont gotta buy double side tape, there's peel off adhesive on the other side...i previously bought them to prevent the strap lugs from scratching the body but went with some other solution...the adhesive on those are really strong..confirm wont come off..they got many different size, shape and colors at the hardware store...brown, white , black , clear ones...u can go check them out...3-4 dollars for like many many pieces for u to trial and error...The smallest sized ones ( those for keyboard ) seem to fit, dont look too good though like a piece of chocolate chip sticking out haha.

I found this btw, they look really nice and a little more secure than the conventional adhesive type. It's a flat adhesive base and button screws on to the base. made specifically for the a7/r. [2nd link shows how it work] @12.99usd for the kit, im tempted to give it a go.

Saw the A7R with $250 rebate, worth or not? Most shop selling near RRP? Need to get a FF for tour but no announcement from A-mount side. :(

try shops like Cathay Photo, Click!, TK foto. sometimes shops sell price lower than RRP and u still get to enjoy the rebate. no harm asking .
