Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

According to the MTF chart, there's also astigmatism towards the edges (quite significant at 24mm), so it's way sharper at the center. I wonder if this is visible ...

I didn't look out for the corners specifically but it looks fine.

bro saw you posted your Zeiss wide lenses.... you didn't like them?

They are fine. I'm selling the Biogon 21mm because I could find a way to fix the colour cast properly. As for the Touit 12mm, I don't have any Fuji bodies to use it on anymore.

Hi

I think the Sony A7/r system has a serious issue that Sony needs to fix!! Posting here to see if anyone can help :P

The original grand master plan was for my A7 to be just a complement to my digital rangefinder setup, using M mount lenses and other legacy lenses I already have (AFD nikkors) so that I can shoot 2 bodies both with M lenses - lenses can be used on both the A7 and my M9. However, as time passes, first it was the not so good but fun kit lens, then the LA-EA4 with a 85mm, and now this:

This lens cannot be used on anything other than the A7, yet it is too good to put down. Seriously, Sony needs to fix this problem of native lens proliferation in my dry cabinet!! It's locking us in!!!!!

Ya man, bloody bloggers sensationalise everything!!:)

Sharing something I witnessed yesterday. I was at Click in the afternoon trying out the 24-70mm f/4 demo. There must be at least another 3 customers in the shop. They are all holding A7/R. Then a group of 7/8 folks from Fuji walked in. They looked senior management/sales folks. Said hello to Richard and team and their eyes wondered around. I could see the "lost for words" and sourness on their faces.....:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

should have taken their sourness faces pic while pretending testing out the lens :bsmilie:

Ok I just realized you are wrong too, like me - it can also be used on ALL E-Mount NEX cameras….
Still, it locks us into the Sony ecosystem, which was not part of the plan! :bsmilie::bsmilie::smilie:

Wait for Metabones to make FE to "the world" adapters loh.

u tried the FE35?

Hi

Yes I did, though I didn't really examine the files. I already have the Leica M9 (whose sensor I feel is better than the A7 in good light) with the very excellent 35mm Summarit f2.5 which I am very happy with, so I didn't really want to look too closely at the 35 FE :P

I did however have the VME adapter for the 35mm, so it can be used on either the M9 or the A7 if necessary. I prefer, however, to shoot projects with 2 bodies and 2 lenses (35mm and 50mm) mounted on each - hate to change lenses!

They are fine. I'm selling the Biogon 21mm because I could find a way to fix the colour cast properly. As for the Touit 12mm, I don't have any Fuji bodies to use it on anymore.

U can loan it to me.... I really dun mind U know? :bsmilie:

Yeah.... Now really need to find some use for my other legacy lenses... LOL

I don't have the G45, but am using the G90 on the A7r with the Deo Tech AF adapter. The Contax lenses are excellent lenses, but I do realise that the G90 cannot resolve 36MP so it's possible that the G45 cannot either. The 55FE definitely can, so you should see a difference in sharpness at 100%.

Similarly, I think the 35FE is an amazing lens. It too easily resolves 36MP and weighs just 120g. I have the Zeiss 35/2 Biogon, which is one of the sharpest RF lenses out there, but it's no comparison to the 35FE on the A7r. The weight makes the A7r/35FE feel as light as a RX1, whereas with the Biogon the lens is so heavy that the camera points down when I sling it around my neck. If you shoot at 35mm, I would recommend the lens.

I think the FE prime lenses are keepers because they are extraordinarily sharp and well corrected and worth their price. As Sony FF mirror less bodies improve, the FE lenses will be good investments for the future. The adapted lenses all either have issues in the corners, are too heavy and manual focus. Also, you have DMF. With the FE lenses and DMF, I find that I can nail the focus with AF for general shots and quickly switch to DMF for getting critical focus e.g., one eyeball sharp. As for professional opinions, Llyod Chambers thinks that the 35FE is one of the best 35mms in terms of micro contrast.

Hi, i am also using Deo Tech AF adapter and Metabones adapter on A7r. My Deo Tech AF adapter sometimes don't lock focus accurately so i will have to override it. Not sure if yours has this problem. I am using Contax G 35mm, 45mm, 90mm all works great on A7r, just love it.

Which one? Touit or Biogon. Well, if I keep them, they will be perfect excuses to get the X-T1!
