samyang 14 2.8 is quite nice on the a7r. i adapted a ef mount onto the a7r. Some test shots below from the lens that just arrived from amazon.

distortion is definitely there, but shld be correctable with the right lens profile, plus a lens sharp edge to edge at F2.8 is hard to find at this price point. simply stunning at F8

nice cheap and good. I will be forgiving and won't mind doing some correction if the price wont cost you an arm

bro how's the Canon 16-35 compare with 17-35? a bit sad with 24-70 was thinking of other alternatives...

i don't have the 17-35 to compare to, but the 16-35 is quite weak in the corners, won't be able to resolve the a7r as well as this samyang even stopped down. distortion much easier to control on the 16-35 though. pros and cons haha.. i use the 16-35 on canon and the 14mm on sony

yeah I was reading the reviews of 17-35, 16-35 and 17-40 among the 3 the oldest one (17-35) seems to be bang for bucks plus distortion was the least also. You mean to say your 16-35L with it's price tg cant resolve the 36mp of A7r? wow... now you make me rethink and feel bad I let Samyang Ebay promo slipped...

Thanks for the heads up guys.

I suppose all those third party lenses will not have af function with adaptors?

Canon AF lenses with the Metabone electronic adaptor could AF the rest all manual I have not heard of Nikon or Pentax adaptor to NEX that could do AF

I see barrel distortion at 1/3 left, and also pincushion at left edge ... is this normal?
Maybe your A7r did some correction to the jpg?

i quite doubt the a7r knows how to do correction to a lens adapted to it using a dumb adaptor haha....

this lens is known to have complex "mustache" distortion, but heard it is fixable with the correct lightroom profiles which i have not experimented yet.

well the 16-35 (mine is mark 1) works well enough on my 5D3, but the 36MP resolution really pushes the 16-35 to its limits. CA is much more apparent and corner softness much more obvious

this was the 16-35 with a7r. even on this resize for web verison you can see the CA on the sides. but lines are nice and straight

yeah this is why most folks don't use this lens for architectural shots but read that you could fix the distortion using lens profile.. for it's price cant really complain much sharpness is there distortion hmmm is also there. I heard I think if I am not wrong even the Minolta A-Mount 17-35 had the same "mustache" distortion.. please correct me if I am not wrong...

good news. i found the lens correction profile and added it to the list of lenses in adobe camera raw folder and my CS6 now corrects my samyang perfectly. Lines are pretty much now nice and straight a click away in CS6.

source of the correction profile. I couldn't get my CS6 to recognise the additional samyang profile though. so what i did was to copy the file in and replaced the profile of the canon 14mm f2.8L.
