Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

Same thoughts too. With price so good there, it may be better to get the A7R?

Unless slightly faster AF is critical.

hehe I only know 1 that could make you regret A7 that is A7r

Just kidding bro congrats great purchase price and enjoy. When I was in Sydney Airport Nov their camera shop area not much good offer :-( mostly their offers are PnS ones..

happy ending to the lens issue. Sony gave me a 1 to 1 exchange for a new lens. Now this copy is way sharper in the corners compared to the one i shared flickr links of.

even lens made in Japan and QC by Zeiss engineers can have problems. so please check your lenses for any signs of alignment issues and bring to sony under warranty. a benefit you get from buying local set vs overseas grey sets

Hi, been away a few days so I missed the discussion. I've done a comparison using DXOMark's tool on sharpness of lenses comparing the 35FE on an A7r to the sharpest SLR lens available, the Sigma 35mm on a D800. Although they have a very similar sensor, the A7r's doesn't have an AA filter. For good measure, I threw in a "cheap" Nikon 35mm lens as well. This comparison was done at F2.8 for all lenses

Congrats! Always suspected it was the QC and am glad they did a 1 to 1 exchange for u instead of lengthy investigations that leads to nothing. I've had identical e mount lenses with optics that were miles apart from one another in the past. Glad the fe35 i have is free of such issues.

Anyone using flash hvl f20m ? Is it local available ? cause i see no price tag at sony sg website

Hi bros

Saw many a7 for sale in bns section. I wonder why? The ghosting due to shorter, how bad is it and how to overcome?

I shoot mainly wide angle and macro. Is there any wide angle prime (24mm) to recommend that has af ability?

Thanks!

Voigtlander 12/5.6 seems to work pretty well on A7 (don't know about r)
Don't even seem to have magenta cast (just vignetting)
So small a lens for the widest FL possible on FF.

I will post some results when I get to take proper picts with it.

To me, UWA option is 'case closed' for me.
Voigtlander 12mm for super wide, Canon FD20 (a bit big) and Pentax K24 (as small) for wide and f2.8 and less perspective distortion.

I have been wanted to try/test out Voigtlander 12mm but since I am using A7r and seen some feedback that magenta cast is worst on A7r I have been avoiding it.

For now I have not choice but keep on using two big lenses and a bit on the heavy side the Leica-R 21mm F4 and the Canon FL 19mm F3.5R. I've seen some UWA CZ lenses but the price tag was way too stiff :-(

Yeah, sees like the CV12 has a magenta cast on A7r.
I'm playing around with the Adobe Flat Field Correction LR plugin, it looks easy enough to fix the vignetting and is supposed to correct the magenta cast too, but I can't be sure since on the A7, there is little magenta cast to begin with.

I think your current UWA/WA lenses are sound.
19mm-21mm really wide enough for most things w/o very OTT perspective distortion.
Its just one bigger lens in the bag, which I think is no big deal since 3-4 lenses still fit in a quite small bag.

Maybe one day I'll go join the kopitiam session with fellow Sony CSer to be able to test out such UWA RF lenses :-) I have seen some nice 2nd hand prices for such lenses.

Thanks bro yeah my two wide lenses are big but perform good so far the distortion is not very bad as the wide zoom lenses. One of these days when time permit will bring out my wides for some landscaping I have not do this activity for sometime now... (Hope work load would tone down a bit also sometimes even weekend I'm still busy clearing backlogs)
