Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

I rented the CZ85f1.4 recently and it's a very nice lens. Only complaint was the AF was terrible.

Wish they will release an e mount version with OSS

Yeah agree :-)

Haha.. sorry buddy. Me old man got bad memory... Haha... I use flexi-spot with smallest spot in the centre. So far AF works very well for me. Read from other websites too on the focusing issues of some users. But nothing concrete on the cause. Was using 35FE and it is easier to get sharp shots in the beginning, and when I changed to 55FE, it took me quite a few shots to get used to it. After using for a day or 2, it becomes very consistent. So far I have no issue with mine. Tried indoor for CNY shots, as well as outdoors at Universal Studios. All sharp and no mis-focus. Maybe some other hiadees could share their experience?

Thanks bro could be the display unit also.

For example I tried the laea4 Omg the mirror has finger prints :-( FE55 very nice lens I see how lolz

At d moment. FE 55 triumphs other lenses I've tried on. For better oof rendering, I always go bk to my rokkor. Keke. Banging on Sony to launch a superb 85mm n a UWA. Time to buck up Sony. Keke

posted this in the image sharing thread previously. anyone with the FE 35mm can help comment on the corner sharpenss performance at F2.8 and F8? somewhat disappointing to me for a lens with the zeiss lens. full size available for view on flickr.

can someone tell me if this is the typical landacape corner/edge performance of a FE35 on an A7r?

somehow i feel the corners are not sharp compared to my expectations, even at F8 and F11. Somehow my sigma 30 2.8 seems sharper at F4

Agree... Never thought the FE35 was exceptional. Definitely not Zeiss price tag...

Those corners look ok to me..? hmmm…..

Those corners look ok to me..?doesn't..

Hmmm even at full resolution on the flickr link? edge doesn't sharpen up even at f8. 1/3 frame on left n right blur at f2.8

i always believed the FE35 wasn't made to be a landscape lens. All the lab tests also mentions that center sharpness is superb but the corners aren't fantastic.
It was made for a small and lightweight (i don't think there's another 35mm this small with AF for FF) lens to carry around and shoot.
i don't think it's that's bad a lens...you can compare it with the canon L or even other zeiss and i believe center sharpness is better...
Having said that..look at the size difference...you ca't expect something this small to be out of this world. there's always a trade off but is it worth the zeiss badge..i definately think so..i really love my FE35...will i use it for landscapes and get sharp images throughout? NO...because it is NOT a landscape lens to begin with

hmmmm... so the corners on the full size flickr image looks the same as your FE35?

i just tried my friend's copy today and i have to say corners on his lens looks better than what i am seeing on mine. Anyway i have sent in the lens to sony keke.

btw my sigma 30 2.8, is sharper than this 35 FE in in on the left and right frame, even though it was not even meant to cover full frame! performance of the sigma at F4 is sharper than the sony at F8.

Haha... I get sharp images edge to edge on my FE 55 and its not even a landscape lens to begin with... :bsmilie:

Just wondering, are u using any filter on the fe35 and if so, is ur friend using a different one? The corners of those photos seem fine to me as well.

no filter on mine, and i think b+w on his lens. no filter shld be better right hehe....

take a look at these day time shots which shows off the softness better. look at the orginal size and look at the left of the frame and right of the frame

@ricleo
Hey am looking through some of my landscape shots in actual size and they were sharp at the corners @f11. @f2.8, it does fall a little at the extreme corners but overall it seemed fine. [ a7r + fe35 ]

Just looked at your fullsize pict @f8 on flickr, sharpness does seem to drop drastically towards the corners especially the bottom left. Your shutter speed is relatively high so it couldnt be a case of camera shake. Just an assumption, perhaps copies do differ. From my experience with e mount lenses over the years, they do have some slight variation in terms of quality and Qc aint that fantastic in the past. Got mine from japan recently and its been stellar so far. Hmmmm...lets just drop the assumptions and see what the service centre has to say.

I will try to shoot something and test my copy tomorrow. .so far the only think I used the lens for is portraits and those didn't show any issue.

hi anyone tried collapsable lenses on the A7 eg: the leica or canon LTM lenses? any idea of they will scratch or hit the sensor?

Tested the Leica Cron 50/2 Collapsible on A7. Will not hit the sensor... Safe! Shot as below!

I don't have experience with such lenses, but there's no reason why it will hit the sony sensor if it doesn't hit the leica sensor, with the correct adapter in place.
