Try checking with the sellers in the BNS thread selling their 55FE bought from overseas. Looks like they have bought a few sets cheap in HK for less than $1000 and trying to make some profits. Maybe they will sell you at their buying price below $1000. No warranty though.
50mm may not be your favourite focal length, but if it is, you need to try the 55FE. It is the new standard set for a 50mm. It is that good.
It is 1190 across the causeway
50mm isn't my fav range but it's always nice to have a good 50..i just find this too big in size to be a nifty fifty..it's almost the size of the 2470...in that case, i'd rather carry the 2470..versatility is more important than the f1.8 to me
Found it a bit longer than I hoped for, but with the IQ that it creates, I guess that they can't make it smaller without sacrificing IQ?
Yea i guess..but the size really puts me off.
These days when i go for shoots..i will bring 2 setups
1) NEX6 with the FE35
2) A7r With the 2470
The 35 makes a decent 50mm on the nex6 and i can alwasy have a 35mm on the a7r if i need to.
Everything else the 2470 covers. That's why i don't want to carry around another 55mm lens..it's too big and bukly and i don't forsee myself using it. if only they made it the size of the 35..that'll be different.
And when the light is dim like a night out...i used to have the SEL50f18 for low light but i also soon sold that off because i rather just bring the NEX6 with the kit lens out..the AF works better in the dark and well, there's a built in flash if i can use it.
I go out nowadays with just 1 lens. 55FE. So it is not too bulky at all.
Used to have 24-70mm on my Canon and Nikon, and realised that most of my shots are 50mm range, and some around 35mm.
So I am happy with just a 55FE, as it is the best 50mm lens that money can buy with a "decent" size.
If Otus is not so huge and requires adapter, I would be tempted to get that instead.
Will carry a small wide angle in my pocket if need, but very seldom.
This is why you need the 55mm..
When i was using the canon version, 90% of my shots were at 24-35mm and 70mm..only 10% was in between![]()
Hmmm. I guess your 24-70F4 FE will stick with you until a better wide angle zoom appears.
Enjoy!
Noob questions specially those who owns LAEA4 are all LAEA4 made in Japan?

Hi Buddy,
I used to have LA-EA1 and LA-EA2. Both Made in Japan.
Was at the shop few weeks back deciding whether to buy LA-EA3 and LA-EA4. Both sets were Made in Japan as well.
Not sure if there are other variants, but I think Sony's has all their adapters Made in Japan, and they are all very well made.

thanks bro
tested the FE55 very nice lensbut I am drawn more to LAEA4 plus CZ85f1.4 and CZ 50f1.4 these two lenses are nice
down side too freaking expensive

I used to have the CZ85F1.4 too. This is a gem, can't go wrong if you are into a 85mm portrait lens.
I sold mine as was using it with Nex 7 previously. With the cropped body, it is a bit too near for me.
Happy with my 55FE for now, and it is my ideal portrait lens. A bit long in size as compared to the tiny 35FE, but still portable without adapters.
Have not tried the new 50f1.4, thought heard alot of its performance. Just didn't like the adapters required. I guess the only benefit is the F1.4 vs the F1.8 of 55FE, but don't think it will be sharper though. 55FE is super sharp even at F1.8 (and I shoot mostly at F1.8 for portrait).
Anyway, all are good lenses. Just take note of your wallet!
yeah bro the CZ 50/1.4 not as sharp as FE55/1.8 wide openbut the lens renders the out of focus nicely.... the 85/1.4 even nicer
my only problem I have a lot of 50's and I have 85 and 90 also and I have 35 but all MF so I cant justify all these Sony lenses (for now) the one I wanted 24-70/4 not so impressed at wide open not that sharp as I expected CZ to be...
One thing I notice with FE55 it sometimes miss-focus maybe its the display set but it does happen to me a few times
You using A7 or A7R?
Miss-focus for indoor shots or outdoor?
Bro A7r... you forgot so fast. indoor shot in the shop... center focus some more
