[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

I agree bro. The improvement is minimal.

The sad thing i see is... from E1, there's a downhill in terms of IQ. I can understand the E300 & 500 have lesser IQ, but when the E330 came... I went "What the...." Strange isn't it? Then they bring IQ back up a little after many yrs & claim the world with this new "100% pixel utilisation".

In my eyes, the leadership in Oly is very weak. The co. has absolutely no vision, & totally clueless about where they r heading / shud head. Its like a bakery cake shop, their core product is to make cakes, tasty ones, fancy ones, etc. Then suddenly they want to make pao. All sorts, big one, small one, chicken, char siew, abalone, shark fin, lotus paste, red bean paste, veg ones, etc... The head came out & say "we're still considering baking cakes" Considering ur core product? Jialat liao.

In my books, Oly credibility is gone. :bheart:

To me, it's like the E-1 team transferred to Pentax about the time Panasonic joined Olympus. No one has the vision or strength of character to take a brave position and stick with it.

I think it's cute that they added art filters to a supposedly professional camera, instead of using the space for dramatically improving image quality and practically eliminating moiré patterns.

It's too bad Panasonic isn't better with image sensors. For all the inroads they've made with consumer products, they just don't show leadership beyond that.

I ain't gonna be the fatty model if that's what you're thinking :bsmilie::angel: But I'll be happy to help

one of my test scenes is to shoot you topless; then we see which cam would resolve your chest hair better....

Though it is sad, but Olympus did deliver the lenses that made me happy and to me, they have already completed the range with two surprises, which is the 12-60 and 50-200 SWD. These two lenses offered mechanical focusing which is something I direly needed and they delivered, and of course, the cute 17mm M.Zuiko pancake.

When it comes to camera bodies, to be honest, there isn't ANY camera bodies that makes me happy. Canon 1DS and Nikon D3 might deliver the goods, but the weight of those bricks, no thank you. Pentax has made improvements, but offers crap lenses when compared to the Zuikos, so its like the problem reversed.

In the end for me, I am happy with the E3, and the PEN... I can always use adapters to mount my ZD glass on PEN. The final image is what that matters, and I believe my photos do all the talking.

I will probably buy a "special priced" E5 and keep that as a spare body to the E3, or maybe wait another year to buy the E5. At the meantime, my current set up is keeping me happy and it is helping me score the images I want so I have no complaints. Just disappointed that Olympus did not deliver a new product that packs a punch. They just delivered sand bags instead. Sigh.

But for the sake of the lenses, I will stick with Olympus. Just hope the next generation of cameras, 4/3 or m4/3, will deliver something better. Olympus is crazy, I tell you... with all the prototypes that they have made, they end up bringing the worse of the worse into the market. Like you said, the problem is with the leadership. Hope they sort out their head eventually... We can only wait.

I'm sure the camera won't be able to resolve one of my chest hair for sure, cause its nearly invisible, hahahah, whoops! TMI :bsmilie:

The E-3 is more likely to replace the E-3 rather than the E-3 replacement, as in if E-3 has broken down and it's quite old and the parts itself are expensive, might as well just get an E-5, right?

Japanese corp do not fire underperformers and hire new mgrs the way Americans do.
We may be stuck with the bunch of clowns at Oly for longer than we like, sigh...:dunno:

How did they come to the conclusion to finalise the current E5 is to everyone's guess. Like microcosm said, they have many interesting prototypes but choose 1 thats worse of the worse. I wudn't call it worse but juz plain L A M E. Panny is doing pretty well esp with the launch of the new GH2. That was in my list but too bad they only release it end of the year, i can't wait.

If u do get a special price E5 say.... 500RMB, grab one for me too!! I want to collect it as a souvenir. HAHAHAHA!!! :bsmilie:

Coming back to the point. Having good lens is not enuf. Its a whole complete sys, the lens & body goes together. Good lens ---> Crap body = No good. Good body ---> Crap lens = No good. I believe this is the reason why the basic bundle kit lens across all brands has undergone a gen or 2 of change, to keep up with the increased MP at least. So with Oly saying "12MP is enuf" & "considering 43", that really don't drive any confidence to consumers. Look at GH2 16MP & u know what can actually be achieved.

I think one can only hope this much. How long do u still intend to hope? Mine ended when they release the E520. :flush:

I am not hoping. What I have is already good enough... The E3 + HG lens has already produced work that is in editorials. Its more than good enough for my needs. I don't need a super camera system you know? Just one that works well for me. And the E-System still kick butt for me.

Regardless whether I get a 1Ds Canon set up or Nikon D3 set up, or stick to the E-System, I have already been shooting for more editorials and exclusive artiste coverage than 99% of people who own killer system. There is another photojournalist I met in Taiwan that covers Jolin Cai's shows, and he uses a Pentax...

I am a photographer, and camera systems are just tools we use. When the Pentax 645D arrives, the only difference it makes is that I have to deal with larger files. And nicer images. But the sad truth is, I still get paid the same regardless of what killer camera I use. Just that the boy in me wants to go back to medium format. What ISO performance? What noise? I have shot for magazines, and no one has complained.

But as an Olympus fan, I am just disappointed at how the E5 turned out, but I am not abandoning the camera system because IT WORKS FOR ME. I have shot magazine covers with the 5MP E1, having the E3 is a bonus which allows me to crop a little here and there. And maybe more with the 12MP E5. Though I don't see any advantage using the E5, but hey, that is an "updated E3" to me. LOL!

I cannot understand why anyone will call the E-System crap. Every camera system has its downside... for me, the E-System is perfect and everything else except the Pentax 645D system is crap. :bsmilie: Personal preference lah... ha ha ha...

Actually, to think about it, Olympus has achieved what Apple has achieved (in my heart).

For the computer :

I love Macs but I hate Apple.

For the camera :

I love the E-System but I am starting to really hate Olympus.

Make sense?

But that doesn't mean we cannot pick up a similar tool and use it ;)

Yes we can bro like DSLR we have Nikon, Sony, Canon, Pentax... all of which we can use to take photo but which one do you prefer? and you feel comportable? ;):)

You get what I mean bro? :D

Of course, all I'm saying is what many has said, its not the camera but the photographer, while we all have preferences, most important is,like what Microcosm said, the final image, to me, final image is important as well, but I prefer working with Olympus DSLRs despite their querks

...

Well, the odd thing is that I see so many 16 or 17 year old newbies using a Canon 500D with a crap lens and coming out with something amazing. Of course, they're better at Photoshop than many people are because they've spent more time with that than behind a camera viewfinder.

I'm not sure putting the new sensor from the GH2 into the E-5 would help, but it probably wouldn't hurt. Even the 14.x MP sensor from the GH1 was deemed better than what they're using. Next year, they might have everything together and reveal something incredibly awesome to replace/enhance the E-5. (It sounds funny coming from me considering how I sounded before, during, and after the E-3 was revealed.)

Still, I've been shooting sports with the E-1 and it still works quite well, although it's looking quite worn.
