[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

If I only consider within Oly I would say yes the ISO is a welcome upgrade......... now if I add other brands.... its a different ball game.... There are some entry level cam that cost half of E5 that could perform similar or close to it.....

I dont think anyone from other brands will migrate to E5... still find E5 a bit 1 or 2 yrs behind its competitors...

Sorry guys this is just my observation...

Well, that is true, but of course, one doesn't look at one aspect and then go "OH! I'll get this cause its good!" so there will be others, I've heard stories that guys from other brands move to Olympus because of the anti dust, probably a few other reason but that's what I heard, if you do lots of studio work, don't think you would need high ISO performance now would we? Of course that is just one thing, maybe I do lots of flash outdoors? Then I wouldn't need high ISO performance, but rather I'd want the Zuiko quality and sell off my current gear for Olympus.

Whatever reason, all cameras today are more or less competent tools but its individual preferences. If they do not want to move, that's their decision, most important is your personal decision, aye?

interview with Toshi one of the Oly big wigs regarding the current products and the future. i think he's quite honest and sincere

warning: slow loading... and Toshi has a cute accent hehe

noteable points:
- E-5 has no AA filter and moire is removed via image processor to provide highest resolution
- (probably) no entry level DSLR coming, amateurs suggested to move to m4/3
- Olympus lineup will be a flagship DSLR (E-5) and m4/3 line
- Once technology is available, the DSLR will move to the current model (m4/3), unsure when it will come
- Oly guarantees that future cameras will support 4/3 lenses
- m4/3 lens lineup is still under development. most resource is on m4/3

is there even a perfect system out there?

i think every systems has its caveats. its up to us to choose which suits us.

No doubt that Zuiko glass is one of the best and Oly Image Processor and hier Algorithm are superb.... but Oly stops there

I dunno maybe I am just demanding but I still feel Oly lacking... the funny side is even how much I hate her I cant let go of her ARGH!!!

Bro I can list a lot of things I hate about my gear......

but only two things keeps me holding on (Color and the freaking Zuiko Glass) other than these no more... So when Oly start to sway away from these two time me for to let go:bheart:

oh I forgot there's a 3rd element but this is only in Singapore... The Oly community love the folks here everyone is a friend!

Well... If they gave you everything you want, it wouldn't be fair to others right? Plus, its variety, if one brand gave you everything, then the world would be perfect, but since the world ain't perfect, keep dreaming!:bsmilie: But on a serious note, as said time and time again, there is just no perfect system, or perfect anything, like I'm actually looking for a chair for my room now, if its not material, its size, if its not size, its material ;)

I hope that image processor does not affect RAw images or can be turned on and off.

Supposedly in Oct

Yeah I know there's no perfect system but I do hope they do something about the shortcoming of thier systems a good to start is the slow AF... man sometimes it's really irritating...

anyways I'll top ranting now... Was just releasing some steam

Thanks for the info. A good DSLR with no AAF, now the best lenses (for me) will shine even more on this, finally a dslr that should stand toe to toe with the Leica digital M in bringing out the best sharpness in lenses, just like in film days where there is no such thing as AAF.

Well, got to beef up on some adapters as well while waiting for this E-5 ...

Obviously, my needs in a camera are not much :)

:DI just want to quit lugging around my heavy Nikon 300 f2.8...So far the only good alternative seems to be the Oly 150 f2 (and maybe the Sigma 150 f2.8 macro) I'm banking on getting the E-5, but if the Gh2 will work properly with the Oly 150, than I may try it as well.;)

E5 stocks for Singapore was supposed to be in around mid Oct...but....due to some other markets under ordering their stocks, some of the singapore stocks will have to be routed there.

singapore stocks will be in around end-Oct to early Nov.

Oh, yes, one of the very few who seem happy with E-5, and I am not even a 4/3 user :bsmilie:

It is something for me to cheer about , just shows we all have different wants. I have already dismissed this E-5 earlier, and now it is back on top of the charts for me.

I'm one of those, hahahah, the body and features not to my liking, but IQ is good which is more important for me ;)

In this case, Olympus really got it right. No need even for UV/IR filter like in the Leica M8/8.2, it's great.

Where opportunity arises, see the image quality with your own eyes. Fine-tuned v1.0 is impressive (to me) as compared to v0.8! :)

I'm sure it will be. Although I feel no need to anymore, even the small Sigma camera without AAF is superb (without thinking of its other failings). I'm sure Olympus is not dumb enough to remove the AAF in their pursuit of giving justice to great lenses, and then curtail it with something else in the process.
