[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

The BLM-5 increases to 1620mAh from BLM-1's 1500mAh. You can use BLM-1 in E5, or BLM-5 in E3/E30. But the chargers are not cross-compatible, hence the colour of the battery and charger has been changed to light grey from the conventional black for easy differentiation.

if physically these two types of batteries are identical specially the contact oreintations and voltage specs the capcity is just saying I can take up more loads. But if there difference between voltages output and contact orientation then these two is not cross sompatible. Otherwise they could share chargers.

I hope my electronics dueing uni still good lols

Olympus US has already specified that the BLM-5 can only be charged in the BCM-5. You can use the different batteries in the same body but each must use it's specific charger.

I'm not sure, just translating from the website shengliang1981 shared based on my limited Japanese.

Will be nice to have the same sensor and image engine combo in the smaller bodies.

Can't be that difficult right?

im crossing my fingers for the Holiday season. there's still hope ;)

Bring on the sample photos! Olympus also damn funny...since the main point of the E-5 is ridonculously good image quality, why not have them available in the press pack when they announce it?

The old man portrait looks pretty impressive, but i will reserve judgement until the full-sized samples are available.

yeah i like the DR.... argh if not for the price and bulk I might jump to E5 lols

Wonder whats the price for this?

Quoted by Oly SG....

"ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18mm f4.0-5.6, ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6, 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 II, 25mm f2.8, ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6, ED 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 lenses are compatible with High-Speed Imager AF. Other lenses are not compatible and fine focusing may not be available. In such a case, it is recommended to shoot with "S-AF+MF" mode. "

So sad... it seem most of the SWD lens are not compatible with the new "High-Speed Imager AF". Is that means AF speed still the same as E-3 or E30? Hmmm????

14-35/f2 and 35-100/f2

They are equivalent to f2 primes from 14mm to 100mm!

actually to me they are like f3.5 zooms for what really matters..

over priced, over weight for what they deliver.

if you are thinking about 35-100 f/2 with E-5, a D700 70-200mm will always be better I feel.

Mainly because of the DR and option to go low DOF.

I believe the so called high-speed imager AF is actually the CDAF used only in live view mode and I don't think it will be anywhere near the speed of the PDAF.

Agree. Rem the Canon 10D --> 20D --> 30D ? Min improvement to milk more money :sweat::sweat: Same story with the 40D --> 50D. nikon did it more gracefully... D70 --> D70s, D300 --> D300s, D2h --> D2hs, D2X --> D2Xs etc etc... :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Everyone is doing it, why not Oly?

Based on what they did with EP-1 (16 Jun 09), EP-2 (5 Nov 09), EPL-1 (3 Feb 10), I would rather they didn't

As I've said elsewhere recently, this is a great body for 2008. Even if the optical quality is remarkable, it would be difficult to get Pen users to buy it.

The 30D was probably better than the 40D. :bsmilie: Canon should have gone straight to the 50D.

Everyone else is doing it yearly. It takes Olympus 4 years to put out a minor or major change.

They did have a lot of "upgrades" for their lower level stuffs like E4xx, E5xx, E6xx. Yet to impress me too. I wonder how people can say the E620 focusing is "acceptable"

looks pretty good so far. high ISO samples are missing, as usual.

Yea,sadly

Just read from amateur photographer webpage that the E5 has one extra function button. Anyone manage to spot where is this button placed?

http://www.amateurphotographer.co.u...last_Four_Thirds_DSLR_camera_news_301801.html

"The E-5 features the same body shape and shooting drive rate as the E-3 but contains three custom function buttons instead of two."

No idea,I did notice that the AF selection point is also video button as well as some sensor looking thing under the VF

I think I read somewhere that the sensor is used to auto adjust the LCD brightness.
