[ OFFICIAL RELEASE 2010.09.14 ] - Olympus E-5

Nothing wrong with evolution ... no camera is perfect anyway. Best is to be open-minded and have different ones for each need :)

.

but of course.

personally, since my e-3's already half dead, it should be an easy choice for me. :bsmilie:

it's also for those who will absolutely die without an optical viewfinder.

Such as me?
But I think I will go the EVF route after this, depending on what they do with the m4/3 line...

the line up is almost done only left is the mid range DSLR....

Probably get pushed to the m4/3 line. Compared to Canikon, the E5 is considered mid-range as far as dslr goes so I wouldn't be surprised if the enthusiast gets pushed to m4/3 along with the consumers.

The focus is on IQ and rightfully so. I am eager to see low light high ISO sample pics from review sites.

If this was the E-3 a few years back, I would have been impressed. Now? Forget it. :dunno: Unless they get something new and current out, E-3 would probably be my last Olympus body. :) (Unless the E-5 is meant to replace the E-30, and a more pro body would be out?)

(The only thing that might keep me here is the ZD glass. ;p But again, where are the fast primes??)

I was well concerned without OVF,but after seeing the EVF from Olympus,no worries anymore hahaha

I agree that most likely they'd go for the high end m4/3 cameras, since afterall, the rumored pro m4/3 has yet to make its appearance

Same here

14-35/f2 and 35-100/f2

They are equivalent to f2 primes from 14mm to 100mm!

As for image quality, the E-5 offers truly breathtaking performance thanks to its "TruePic V+" image processing engine with new Fine-Detail Processing technology. This enhances the sense of detail and resolution, maximizing the potential of the 12.3-megapixel High-Speed Live MOS Sensor to deliver pictures that are sharper and clearer than ever before.

To further enhance those images — especially the sense of resolution, the E-5 features newly developed optical filters and the new "TruePic V+" image processing engine with "Fine-Detail Processing" technology. While previous attempts to improve the resolution of fine subjects often led to problems such as pseudo-colours and moiré, Olympus's new "Fine-Detail Processing" technology uses sophisticated algorithms to enhance the sense of resolution and to reduce pseudo-colours and moiré. The resulting images give the impression of having higher resolution than images with the same number of pixels shot on previous cameras.

Made of a “thixomold” magnesium alloy with homogeneous composition, the camera body is extremely strong, durable, and lightweight.

This fine detail processing sounds interesting. I have a feeling that this means the subjects will have a 3D pop out kind of look, equivalent to the Canon 1series. Need to go hide in mountain to meditate to find out more. HAHAHAHA!!!

But the body.... well, weight is 13g heavier than E3 (from DPreview specs). So its still a heavy gear setup.:sweat: Will we see a younger sibling in the form of "E33"? Cheaper & lighter?

Looks like the it the old BLM1 and the new BLM5 batteries are interchangeable which is good news to existing E3 owners. :)

i can't profess to be able to read japanese, but from my limited chinese i guess that the blm-5 is a high capacity blm-1.

Actually the E5 is 10g lighter (800g) than E3 (810g) according to official specs from Olympus SG, nothing significant though.

Agree. Rem the Canon 10D --> 20D --> 30D ? Min improvement to milk more money :sweat::sweat: Same story with the 40D --> 50D. nikon did it more gracefully... D70 --> D70s, D300 --> D300s, D2h --> D2hs, D2X --> D2Xs etc etc... :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Everyone is doing it, why not Oly?

this is sad... I like the E620 size just nice to me not too big not too small :( I am not into E30/E3/5 too much for me....

I like bigger cameras, especially the Nikon D3s  but too ex for me to get 1 plus, don't like the grip nor the output, lets just wait and see,I'm curious to see what becomes of the low end series and what will come out from the pits of the "pro m4/3"

-cough- Are you sponsoring me? :bsmilie:

they cost less, collectively i may add, to a summilux!

but no, i can't sponsor you what i struggle to sponsor myself... :p

we might just get updates of the smaller bodies. remember the E-450 (an upgrade of the E-420) didnt got any news from the rumor sites

just wishful thinking hehehe

The BLM-5 increases to 1620mAh from BLM-1's 1500mAh. You can use BLM-1 in E5, or BLM-5 in E3/E30. But the chargers are not cross-compatible, hence the colour of the battery and charger has been changed to light grey from the conventional black for easy identification.

Will be nice to have the same sensor and image engine combo in the smaller bodies.

Can't be that difficult right?

As I've said elsewhere recently, this is a great body for 2008. Even if the optical quality is remarkable, it would be difficult to get Pen users to buy it.

The 30D was probably better than the 40D. :bsmilie: Canon should have gone straight to the 50D.

Everyone else is doing it yearly. It takes Olympus 4 years to put out a minor or major change.
