i suspect this is those 747 being sent by garuda to the middle east.
it is a leased plane to do the Hajj charters.

I was wondering how come the tail was painted different with the rest of them, so you might be right, is a leased plane from Garuda.

It's a leased B744 from Pullmantur Air with a new registration number (EC-KOC).

Off topic yet again, but anyone knows of any hobby shop in SINGAPORE selling COMMERCIAL airplane models/ Commercial Aviation DVDs like JustPlaneVideo? Besides Nikko( Dragon Wing models at 50% off:o) and the Orchard Store.

Going to Hawaii in January before i enlist, the routes i will be taking is SIN-TPE-NRT-HNL-TPE-SIN (excluding inter-island flights in Hawaii), makes for great spotting opportunities, especially since quite a number of aircraft lands in HNL during delivery from the Boeing Field. What lens should i get, are those 18-200mm lens enough? Thanks.

There are a couple of shops around the city area selling civil aviation/commercial aircraft scale models and replicas though I can't exactly recall the names and locations. Prefer to get videos (Intelligent Television & Video (ITVV) etc. etc.) through the intenret with a credit card, a debit card will do just as fine.

Had never visited Honolulu, though a superzoom lens seems like a good choice as you wouldn't want to lug around a couple of heavy lenses throughout the entire day. :)

What do you think would be the "minimum requirement" for a lens in order to take close-up pictures of aircraft, or landing shots?

Oh, and i have no credit card or debit card, so it seems that ordering through the internet is out of the question for me:(

Actually it depends on your position to the plane, i meant how close are you to the plane.

If its quite near , get the 18-200 or tamron 28-300 (Depends on camera model).

More suitable. You need not need 75-300 or other big mama lens.

Go to airliners.net or Jetphotos.net and search for photos of the airports you are going to. Jetphotos allows photographers to enter the type of equipment used for a particular photograph so you can see what is sufficient for that airport. If no info is available contact the photographer and ask what equipment to use, and what how to get to the photography spots.

A very informative thread this is... :)

Well, in that case, I sincerely hoped you will enjoy yourself here. :bsmilie:

Nice picture. Thanks for sharing. Did you know that this plane has a center stick unlike most other transport planes and it is the exact same design as the F-16 sidestick, with the same CMS, DMS, TMS, pickle and trigger switches. When I asked what all the switches like the pickle button and trigger switches were for, I was told that they were for camera on, auto pilot altitude hold, auto pilot attitude hold etc... How interesting. :) It even has a HUD!
