Nice shot!

I was damn tempted to borrow a cam and shoot it from inside PLAB as it taxied pass the terminal for takeoff.. Trust me, the view from inside the base is damn nice. You're just 20 M away from the planes.

a terminal inside PLAB?

The following photos are my first attempt at night time aviation photography, comments and critiques are very much welcome and appreciated.

Drove my mum to catch a late night / early morning flight before proceeding CBP to watch her flight take off from RWY 02L hopefully and was still setting up the tripod and remote timer when the aircraft started rolling. This would explain the uncompleted trail of the aircraft anti-collision and navigation beacons at the start, the trail at the background is that of another aircraft landing.

Surprisingly, there are still quite a few couples in their cars at 0400 - 0500 hours.

Both photos taken with bulb exposure (30+ seconds) at f/13 with custom WB.

One more...

3800015912_ac0631b3a0_b.jpg

A CXA B737-85C (B-5162), THA 777 (HS-TJD) & JEC 747 (9V-JEB) basking under the floodlights as they are parked overnight, while an aircraft touches down on RWY 20R.

I only noticed the glare when I viewed the image on my computer, should have increase ISO to reduce exposure time.

BTW most of the glass panels of the viewing mall at T1 are now temporary covered up, seems like the transit mall is being extended in a manner similar to T2 and T3. :dunno: Might be the last chance for the public to have an unobstructed view of the airport apron.

Try not to take pics from behind the glass panels because they present a blue greenish tint.

Your night photos have sharpness but the white balance is off. I would prefer to see the actual orange lights. And sadly, the haze has reduced contrast.

You should really go outdoor, to Changi beach etc. etc. instead of restricting yourself to T1. You have good gears make best use of it. ;p

Those photos are shot with the EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6, I have some other telezoom lens as well but I do not love lugging heavy lenses everywhere unless it's some special occasion. ;)

I do shoot outdoors at changi beach

but i seldom post them online, cause i alwys hav trouble getting the right exposure. Most of the time the plane is dark. Perhaps till i get my exposure right, den i'll strt posting outdoor pics. But i'm open to any advices :D

If the sun is behind the aircraft, your subject might be underexposed due to backlighting. You can either move to another position or try using the partial/center weighted metering mode to take an exposure reading from the body of the aircraft instead.

My two cents. ;)

Will take note of this and thanks for the feedback. :)

I couldn't figure if I should set the appropriate WB towards the cooler or warmer temperatures. Under such condition whereby the environment is being illuminated by sodium-vapour lamps, what is the WB correction that you will typically set to? I had reset the WB of the previous shots back to tungsten (shot setting), also re-cropped and removed the lens flare in some of the images.

Yeongnam Air declared bankrupt last year, any idea who is operating HL7774 currently?
The registration number seems to be changed too.

Hi, im new to photography and i also love planespotting.. I was thinking of heading down to changi this saturday to have a try at shooting planes.

How do i know where and when they will land at which direction?

Greatly appreciated if anyone can guide me..

Thanks.

Where: Would be the two parallel runways besides the terminal. You can spot from Changi Business Park or Changi Park for dat matter.

When: As short as 5 mins per plane? Which direction would depend on the winds.

So yup basically it's veri much to the weather.

Personally, I would set to warmer temperatures for night shots. Especially when there are white or orange coloured lamps. When having long exposures, the bright spots may look slightly washed out.

It will be best that your camera can set temperature directly instead of relying on presets. Alternatively, you can adjust temperature in photoshop.

Usually planes land into the wind, so check wind direction before you go.
If the winds are S/S-W, then the landing direction will be from the Changi Beach Park side.
