Thanks 9V-Orion Images for the ID. You know your aircraft well.

Too fast too furious (The new F-15?)

:)

Hmmm, you caught this along Choa Chu Kang / Murai areas ? I know they were trying something on Tuesday base on the sound of their engines but it was too far for my camera to capture anything sensible.

I spotted it from my bedroom window. It was flying over serangoon central.
The sound of the engines just made me stop whatever i was doing cause it was different from the usual plane/helicopter sounds.

:)

I don't think the F15SG engines are quieter than the F16 on take offs. I notice the sound of the take off and the reverberation is stronger on the F15. I'm used to hearing F16 take off at Choa Chu Kang areas, the whole of this week, I can tell it was completely different.

However, luck has it that my timing was screwed when the opportunity was there while I can't be there for that photographic moment.
On second thought I wouldn't say the General Electric F110-GE-129C turbofan engines of the Strike Eagle on idle thrust during a landing approach actually are quieter than the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 turbofan engine of the Fighting Falcon, though the lower pitch rumbling roar definitely sounds more pleasing as compared to the sometimes screaming and whistling Fighting Falcon, or it just might be me that feels this way?

I am inferring from your posting that you had been regularly heading to the Gun Club lately eh?

Those are some rather fascinating photos taken from a very interesting vantage lookout point.

YSSY if I am not mistaken? If only there are such public accessible locations in Singapore for plane spotting. :embrass:

9v, that's a pretty good observation. The 229's on their own don't produce the high pitch that you're referring to. That is caused by the design of the fixed intake on the f-16s. The f-15s with the large variable ramp intakes actually makes a lot less noise, or rather does not produce that very loud and high pitched whistle as demonstrated by USAF f-15e's that run 229s. Matter of fact, the f-16 intakes aRe so close to their max airflow rate the block 50s had to have their intakes enlarged, hence the name big mouth f-16s.

bro 9V-Orion, i dun find the F15 quiet leh infact i find it so much more noiser then F16.. i was at home then hear this loud roar and immediately rush to take my cam.. the 2nd pic the F15 making a turn to base (didnt land though) was caught in AF-S thats why not very sharp lol ..

wootz, i very happy that Phil "Budgie" Parsons (Squadron Leader F-111 Display) had requested a original copy of my photo to be framed and hang on his wall. :D

however i just saw his mail dated 3 Mar. hopefully his email address is still valid as i had already sent him the original copy. :)

runway cycling should have the newly acquired f-15s on static display. air force open house usually occurs somewhere in the 3rd quarter.. after the runway cycling..

Thanks great info. Cheers

Great catch !! Will be nice if you can grab the C17s, DC8s, Fedex 757 freighter converted coming in from the North.

Thanks for the compliment!

Unlikely for the north side as there is very limited vantage point and lot of inaccessible areas to do a good shoot. Also, the miss factor is very high as those a/c have unannouced schedules and it is by pure chance that you get to see them arriving or departing.

Yup indeed. I have read from another site that enthusiasts who stay around Punggol, seng kang facing the east will have a bird's eye view of the whole airport and runway.

With the height of HDBs around that area, everyday it's a private airshow

Ah..., that clearly explained the high pitch whistling noise that I had often heard from the Fighting Falcons during their final approach into RWY 36 of WSAT. Your remarkable knowledge of military aviation is indeed impressive.

Just extremly curios, did you capture those photos of the F-15SG Strike Eagles from where I think you are.

The angle of the F-15SG Strike Eagle relative to your position seems to indicate that we might have quite possibly been capturing the same birds at the same place and at the same time. :sweatsm:
 Too many things to tie up prior to major events that is forthcoming.
I see, thanks for the clarification. It's been a while since I saw your guys popping biological FOD at WSSS. ;p

Kudos for the job well done in capturing the F-111 Aardvark, you must be honoured. :D

What are those two black bands just forward of the tail boom and at the top of the fuselage for? Impromptu patch ups done to the airframe or something else?

Not meant to offend you or pick on your post in any way whatsoever, Accumulator. Just a reminder to all of us, military aviation enthusiasts especially, that it is best not to go further into the specific details such as the exact public accessible locations overlooking any military installations etc. etc. for reason of military Operations Security (OPSEC).

Thank you for your understanding. :)

I was wondering too about the patches as I find this bird rather odd other than the dirty areas near the exhaust ports.

Most of the time in public sighting , ACM seldom pops up from the cabin to have a view of the city.

No worries at all, my sincere apology. Just keep the fantastic shots rolling in.
