Wow, it's AirAsia 100th Airbus A320 already? Very cool livery.

hi there,
this is my 1st time shooting from Carpark 07 for the show n i was thinking would a 70-200 is enff on a FF body or do i need a 2x TC?
pls advise. :)
I was there during one of the aerobatic flying displays practices and combine rehearses during 2010, didn't took any photos though but I reckon you may need something like a 400mm telephoto lens to capture anything decent?

Also it can get quite crowded rather quickly at last that was the case when I was there.

saw this eagle coming in abit diffrent, wonder what is that piece of thingy for when open it up, some kind of brake?:D

Hi erkuan,

Spot on! That feature which you see at the upper side of center fuselage (behind the cockpit) is that Air Brake! Air brakes are a type of flight control used to reduce air speed during landing. They differ from spoilers in that air brakes are designed to increase drag while making little change to lift, spoilers greatly reduce lift while making little change to drag.

Cheers,

Yeah...100 planes for AirAsia already. Didn't know about it till I came back and did a google after the shot.

For Singapore Airshow, if shooting the military jets, I think 300+ TC is the minimum for filling up to 50% of the frame.

Here are some of my shots of the A10 at SA2010. EXIFs are all there. 300+2xTC

Thank you Ethan for the info.

If you can venture little more in after the canel the sight will be great. Did a recee last week but seems like they have closed off the road leading in. Can use google earth and you'll see the beach front which is the nearest you can get. Car park 7 is not too good as the view is rather blocked.

Hi would like to ask, during Singapore Airshow 2012, which part will be best for shooting? The Changi Jetty (the one after SAF jetty), or near 20L/02R area, or Ubin Chek Jawa is a good spot also? Thx

Changi jetty will most probably be closed off. Same for carpark 07 will too be sealed off on actual day and parking there can be rather limited. Ubin chek jawa will be too far away. If you have a bike can try cycling in along the coast / "forested" area to get as close as possible.

I just tried that alone and the dirt trial is rather long but worth it I guess. I dun mind to recee more if got more kakis.

Wish I could go but got other commitments. You driving or cycling or walking in? The location is definitely worth the journey.

As what Robotech mentioned, you may need something like a 400mm telephoto lens with an additional 2x teleconverter for an effective focal length of 800mm if you plan on filling up your frame sufficiently with the subject when shooting along the stretch of beach next to Carpark 07 of the Changi Ferry Terminal?

Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) along with Aviation Park Road is situated on private property. There's actually a guardhouse somewhere near the junction of Aviation Park Road and Changi Coast Road.

think this year they shifted the barricades much more nearer the main road. The land plots / aviation park road still belong to SLA, CAAS and think they have some sort of temporary leasing agreement for event organiser. As for the location to view the flight display, land belongs to SSC. So it may be trespassing of state land?

B787 (Zulu Alpha 003) will be here. The futuristic "glass flight deck" would be particularly interesting to see first hand with all the 5x 15.1" diagonal Sharp LCD panels functioning as the PFD, MFD (CDU, COMM, INFO, ND, SYS, etc. etc.) and EICAS display in addition to the Class 3 dual EFBs and the CAT I/II ILS certified HUDs.

Also looking forward to learning more about Boeing's Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) open architecture principles known as the Common Core System (CCS) from the Boeing flight test engineers if possible, got a couple of questions that I would like to ask in person.

Are you serious?
Why they never update the list? :s

Yup, Zulu Alpha 003 will be flying in from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport where it is currently positioned, stopping along the route at Suvarnabhumi International Airport from the 9th of February 2012 (2012-02-09) to 11th of February 2012 (2012-02-11) before touching down at Changi Air Base (CAB (East)), Runway (RWY) 02R/20L on the 11th of February 2012 (2012-02-11) as part of Segment 03 on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Dream Tour.

Upon landing, Zulu Alpha 003 will be defuelled on the Transport Apron of Changi Air Base (CAB (East)) before being towed into Changi Exhibition Centre's Static Aircraft Display Area (SADA) by SIAEC Line Maintenance Division with many people enthusiastically awaiting its arrival along the tow road.

How about shooting from the show?is 200 + 2x tc enff??

Hi 9V-Orion, will you have the landing time of the 787 also? Since these days landing mostly on 02R. There might be a chance to snap it when it lands?

Aerobatic flying displays practices and combine rehearses schedules are as follows.

  • 2012-02-11 T 10:30 +8 to 11:30 +8 &
    2012-02-11 T 15:00 +8 to 15:30 +8
Feel like going to Changi Beach this Sat to catch the above rehearsal. Actually I'm only looking forward to the MIG-29s.

Any news if any 'special guests' will make a fly-by appearance? Past airshows had the B-52 and even a B-2 I think.
