Did you guys ooogle at the DSLR video rig at CP?? They were using D5000 on one of the setup if i'm not wrong... Those looked pretty pro! Made-in-the-US-of-A... Can't remember the brand... had a proper Mike jacked into the DSLR socket on the sides...

I think it is this brand:

Looks nothing if you see them separately..but get the whole shebang together... phew... your DSLR is transformed into a serious monster video equipment...

One of the setup at CP looks like this... but with a Mike attached - I can't remember... maybe more complicated...

Please don't tempt me... I used to edit videos using Adobe Premier in the old days... oh those transitions... add sound effects... ;p It's getting back to me again....

Like I said... what's on CP's website are all separated pieces.... go there and have a look... it's at the right side of the window display... Major poisoning...

Correct. D300s is actually the same with D300 with additional to capture movie only, but the movie quality hasn't in Full HD and still need to manual focus.

D3100 is a no brainer

should be no longer "motion jpeg" codec for the D3100 video

H.264 AVCHD Codec (.mov file)!! similar to Canon 550D.

Nah... I'm not thinking of going seriously into videography... But the thought of editing a short footage of a sunsetting / rising, and family outing IS indeed tempting... now I don't have to get video cam when my current one dies! Heck with the current Nikkors I have and planned - there is NO way a HDvideo cam can beat my DSLR!... Or even the future DSLRs to come...

Correct !
It is in *.MOV format, Full HD Video, maximum 30 fps.
Good for a photographer who occasionally record movie clip

Movie
Metering:TTL exposure metering using main image sensor
Metering method:Matrix
Frame size (pixels) and frame rate
• 1,920 x 1,080 (24p): 24 fps (23.976 fps) • 1,280 x 720 (30p): 30 fps (29.97 fps)
• 1,280 x 720 (25p): 25 fps • 1,280 x 720 (24p): 24 fps (23.976 fps)
• 640 x 424 (24p): 24 fps (23.976 fps)
Maximum recording time:10 min.
File format:MOV
Video compression:H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding
Audio recording format:Linear PCM
Audio recording device:Built-in monaural microphone

30fps only for 720p though, not 1080p.

30 fps is required for recording performance such as dance or fashion show.

But for family holiday clip, I would prefer Full HD, definitely.
;p
