On the wide angle M lenses, u'll noticed a tab on the focusing ring. when tab is pointing downwards, you're setting distance to 5ft, point to the floor and u'll noticed the distance the floor is somewhat within the treshold (depending on how tall u are).

I think Mike's note on this only applies to the Cron 35 pre-asph, use another lens and the scale will be different.

Does anyone know is M8 available in Singapore?

Thanks.

It's about the same on the 35 lux and the 35 cron 4th version... using both currently, one for low light and one for it's ultra compactness.

If they can sell the M8 at about S$6-7k street-price, I think it will find its own market. Afterall, that is what the EOS 5D sold for when it was released.

Given what today's DSLRs go for, that would be a very reasonable price i think... certainly in smaller multiples say, comparing the M6 vs the Fm2n in the old days!

And the M8 is nicely built ... and IMHO, well thought out ... probably hence the wait .. though voigtlander/epson were earlier to market with the RD-1 and RD-1s (which retails for about S$5k).

I think the R9 w/ digital back is a dud... but Leica might just have a winner on their hands with the M8. It comes at a time that the basics about digital cameras has begun to stabilize.

For SLRs... since Leica is now part of the 4/3 consortium... they should just let the R-series die a natural death and sell new DSLR bodies based on the panasonic design ... and make their money selling premium lenses (they are already doing that in a small way with the vario-elmarit for the recent panasonic dslr?).

Epson RD-1s is selling at much lower price than that.... only $3,888

Hi,

The information I have from the local agent is the M8 will be launched in Singapore after the Photokina. Let's hope this is the case. As for the price, I expect this to be $8K+. If the PQ is as good or even better than the DMR, this will be a winner.

N.S.

Not that I'm even contemplating between the M7 and M8, but I'm curious to see how I can justify purchasing the digital M8 IF I ever have the moolah to do so... ;)

The estimated price difference between the M7 ($4500) and M8 ($8500)should be about $4000. That would account for about 500 rolls of film, assuming each roll cost $8 including processing of the film itself only (prints not counted since it'll cost the same for printing for film or digital source).

Assuming I shoot 2 rolls every weekend, the 500 rolls will last me 250 weekends which is about 62 months. That's slightly more than 5 years before I can cover the difference between the two cameras (break-even between film and digital). That's quite reasonable for a shooter...

Of course, one can argue that 5 years later the digital body will be next to worthless, but who can tell the value of film cameras 5 years later? The only probable thing is that the film based M7 and MP will outlast the digital M8 in terms of lifespan...

Forgive my mindless ranting... must go for dinner now... :sweatsm:

I have never actually bothered to calculate it like that....but I guess that makes sense.

Then again, you forgot to add: petrol and car park fees just to get film processed. Hahaha...

No petrol and car park fees for me. Just processed them while I unwind after a day's work!.

Another thing. I believe in Singapore, no one can process my negatives (B&W) better than me!

Hey that was what more or less I was saying on this thread!

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=223533

But then you forgot the pleasure of holding on to the body and pressing the trigger of that M-whatever is priceless for most people. It is like driving a Lamborghini verses driving a Lancer. Both will get you from A to B, but only one does it for you in style.

Actually, I am inquiring around for the availibility of one right one, don't tell the wife. Anyone interested?

Me Me Me but I have to check with my bank first;) Yes it is sux to be poor:cry:

Definitely not cheap, it should be under $8000 to be competitive, that's what most US dealers are selling for. Prices ought to stabalise once the hype tapers off.
Yes, that's what I thought too when I checked out his site. He is selling the Panasonic L1 at the same price as the Epson R-D1s at about $3,880. Seems quite high to me for the L1. :(

Most items are generally overpriced over at Shashinki, I think they are catering mostly to european buyers who aren't as price sensitive.

The M8 would be priced near $8.5k when it's launched. Perhaps it'll drop to $8k a couple of months when the hype is over and stocks start flowing in...

Anyway, you might wanna wait for the 2nd or 3rd batch to come in... usually less buggy... ;)

Ya just saw the review by dpreview. The M8 is a beauty. Not sure if the digital quality is up to the mark. At that price I would expect the best of the best. Anyone know enough to comment on the digital quality?
