Here's what I took recently. If I recall correctly I was using the kit 18-55mm lens.

Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie and super noob here... Hello, first time posting... Hope all the gurus here can give me abit of help...

I have been shopping for cameras recently as I have always been very keen in taking up photography as it has always been my interest... Didn't start earlier because of my work.. But now that I have the time so looking into exploring photography...

I am not sure what to buy between the 1100D and the 600D, besides the megapixel that is 12.2 vs 18, shutterspeed 3 vs 3.7, 1100D shoots HD and 600D shoots Full HD (what does that means?) and the swivel screen on the 600D, I seen the spec sheet for both comparing side by side, as a newbie I really don't understand much of the difference. Can someone share with me? Are the two of them close competition?

I think for these two cameras megapixel may not be very important compare to the lenses if I do not print my photos more than A3? Am I wrong?

Forgive me as I am a noob and I know nothing about photography. I am having such a tough time deciding over the last one week.. cos $799 and $1300 almost a $500 difference as I am not sure if the 1100D is worth investing plus I save up the $500 to get a better lens which can enhance my photos?

I intend to take better photographs from my Canon Ixus 950 and I mainly shoot landscape/scenery, food and family/friends... I intend to help take some pictures for my friend's wedding in Sept as well (not as a pro, but one off event... more like just help take the event and the vainpots jie mei cos he only having the photographer at night and not day time so I help shoot some photos in the morning for keep sake)....I travel quite alot so I like to take better pictures of the landscape/scenery (buildings/mountains/skyscrapers), people and food which I find the compact digi cam not that good leh...

Based on the kind of things I shoot will the 1100D be sufficent or should I invest in a 600D? I hope to have some ideas.. Thanks so much :)

I sincerely appreciate all the help and advise thanks so much :)

@meganut there's a lot of difference when you hold the camera in your hands, as well as the IQ of either model. Other than that, build quality, weight, etc etc also makes a difference between the two.

Full HD video means 1080p. Basically it means awesome videos that can be played on a HD tv.. Read up some reviews on dpreview.com etc, google for a comparison between them both and you'll have a better picture of which is good etc. Ask more question in this forum and read through the newbie section(especially the guides).

Lastly and most importantly, I'd suggest you to head down to Vivocity to Canon's showroom and test it yourself =) Good luck!

Hi Conan86 thanks for the reply

What is IQ?

Also build quality and weight, how is it important for a photographer? I think the 1100 should be lighter?

I read alot of reviews for 60D and 600D but can't find much info for the 1100D... Stress..

Thanks so much for the heads up will look around more... thanks...

IQ means image quality. I believe that the IQ of 600D is definitely better than 1100D. You would probably like a heavier body so that it feels more sturdy when shooting on hand. Build quality is the feel of how well the camera is built etc.. 1100D is the basic entry DSLR of Canon, 600D/550D is also entry level but with better sensor etc. I would say that although both are entry level, they are not competing against each other in terms of specifications. It's like 60D vs 7D..

I believe the reason why you can't find much info on 1100D is because it's really quite new, newer than the 600D.

I'd say that if you're really looking to pick up photography as a hobby, the 600D would be a better choice. If you not that sure or serious, on a tight budget and just wanna explore to see if you'll like to go further into the hobby, the 1100D would be good start.

You can also look at the 550D to compare with the 600D and 1100D. 550D is a lot like the 600D but cheaper.

Go to the showroom to test them out and you'll see what I mean by the build quality etc =D

ahhhhhhhhh okok...

thanks but i am really drawn to the 1100D cos the sexy hot red looks super hot... and I am a sucker for gadgets...

Ok i guess should be the 600D then...

Thanks for the info... The brother here who bought the 1100D making me feel like buying 2 cameras hahahah

Np. Remember to read up the newbie section when you're free to learn more about the basics ya. It'll be good to consider getting a tripod(for night photography) and a dry box/cabinet for storage.

There's no question that the 600D is better than the 1100D, the question is whether the price difference is justifiable. If the difference is of no concern to you, then by all means get the better camera. But you do get an awful lot of camera for just $800 and to me, the price difference is enough for me to get a decent zoom lens and/or tripod.

Hi brother

YEs this is indeed a very valuable point for me... Sure, the 600D is no doubt a better camera hence the price, if its crappy I dun think it will price so much more... so I am thinking should i get the 1100D at 799 and save up the 450-500 and get a better lens which is far better than getting the 60D with kit lens and thats it... Image quality and video quality no doubt is important but as long as the pictures looks great with cheaper body and better lens, I say why not? hahahaha...

I just afraid that the photos if i print it to an album or burn it into dvd and play on my 42 inch HD tv might be a problem leh.. I am really noob, not sure if it will be a problem for the 600D as well... so confuse...

I really can't decide cos the fact that I can buy a 1100D with better lens and take great pictures is a pulling factor whereas if I were to buy the 600D, I probably have a budget for only a 50 F1.8 and thats it...

This is tough

Hi brothers

I am in big **** now hahahahaa... I went to test both and being a sucker for anything digital, I like both... Both have its good points like one is lighter and simple to use, the other more features. not sure if i should save the money for better lens. So confuse.

This is tough

The 1100D is ~$800 kit, the 600D is ~$1250 kit. Difference of about $450. With $450, you can get lenses like the EF-S 55-250 4-5.6 IS and the 50mm 1.8.

Don't buy the 55-250 IS during the PWP, it is a rip off.

You can buy it brand new in shops for about $360 (local set) or $260 from DD electronics (Grey set)

The 50mm 1.8 can be bought for about $140 for a local set from most reputable shops.

U can consider 550d second hand. Also 18mp. Jus fyi.

Hi all, I'm totally new to photography also. Has been planning to get a camera to take photos of my pets. But I'm not quite sure is 1100D suitable for me to take pet photography or not.. Can anyone give me some advice?

Any of the DSLRs should be able to take photographs of pets, the deciding factor is the stuff behind the camera. What kind of pet do you have?

hi guys..i am also a new EOS 1100D user..hee will post my pics later..coz now at work..mm i was using my brother Tamron lens to take it but do u guys know any place that isselling used or new tamron lens for a gd price..i heard penisula shopping centre have..but 4 shops..dunno which one better?

Is 799 w 8g memory card, a case and a screen protector a good buy? Ontop of tt can buy a efs 55-250mm at 299. Any recommendation?

this is GREAT advice from Kangdi !
Buy a cheaper camera and get good lens.
The difference in the pictures you get will be obvious !

I tried the camera and I must say " go down and grab the bargain of the century"
With $800, see what you can buy at the BS section .....( loads of BS )
But with the 1100D, you basically get all you need to go shooting the minute you leave the shop !
( with warranty and all )
